That's 20% of deaths globally. Key to treating and preventing deaths from sepsis is early diagnosis. Rapid diagnostics are of course key to early diagnosis. Here is to all of those companies developing new and innovative diagnostics, and other solutions to address sepsis.

Bravo to the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. Sepsis is at the heart of intensive care (ICU). Major aggression such as extensive burn, polytrauma, large wound, crush syndrome, pancreatitis, irradiation… can trigger immediate immune responses called systemic inflammation. They share similarities to sepsis. 🔥Sepsis is in nature the terminal phase of an infection when the body's immediate response is too violent diffuse. Without resuscitation, it usually precedes death. But thanks to resuscitation, 50 to 80% of these patients survive. This is possible thanks to the machines, drugs and carers who take care of the failing organs. However, we don't know how to stop sepsis, so we wait for it to stop. Mortality remains high, convalescence long and the risk of sequelae high (e.g. COVID long). Sepsis cost 0.5% of US GDP. It cause nearly as much death than cancers or cardiovascular diseases. #Sepsis = #cancers =#cardiovasculardisease =#cardiovascular similar diseases in terms of mortality, impact on patients and their families, and direct and societal cost. Today is #WorldSepsisDay! Sepsis poses a huge risk, especially for newborns in resource-limited settings. Every year, 214,000 babies lose their lives due to antibiotic-resistant sepsis. It's time to act! The SNIP-AFRICA project, funded by @Global Health EDCTP3, is working to find better treatments through innovative clinical trials like NeoSep1 or the PRECISION study, focused on finding the most effective antibiotic regimens and doses for this vulnerable group. Let’s raise awareness and support efforts to fight sepsis and save newborns worldwide! 💜👶 #SNIPAFRICA https://lnkd.in/e88P5Fq8

Discover the Transformative Impact of Team-based Care in Preventing Cardiovascular Diseases Hypertension, or high blood pressure, affects nearly half of US adults and is a major preventable risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Progress on reducing cardiovascular disease deaths has stalled, and we need to intervene. Strategies to control hypertension call for an all-hands-on-deck approach, in which everyone in the community and clinical public health workforce plays a pivotal role. What will the next 100 years bring for cardiovascular disease and prevention? Experts point to three areas they expect may play a crucial role, according to the American Heart Association: ▶ A push to halt the rise of cardiovascular risk factors using the knowledge gained in previous decades ▶ The continued development of innovative technologies ▶ A heightened focus on the root causes of health disparities to prevent them from widening as the U.S. population grows more diverse Today, leading innovators are developing next-generation early detection technology that can treat patients faster and more accurately while improving quality-of-life. https://lnkd.in/gnSdpHUY I #DigitalHealth #CardiacHealth #HeartFailureDetection Laura Williamson

““Five years, 10 years, 20 years from now, what are we going to see in terms of cardiac impairment, pulmonary impairment, neurologic impairment? It’s year five in the pandemic, but there’s still a lot we don’t know about it.” The concerns regarding COVID infection are multipronged, she said, and include potential acute implications like hospitalization and death, the development of long COVID, and “even longer-term effects” like those she referenced. It’s estimated that 6% to 10% of those infected with COVID will go on to develop long COVID, she added.” Companies with mandatory work-in-office policies, how do you plan on supporting your employees while putting them at unnecessary health risks?
