Experienced association leader/innovation evangelist/education strategy maker/data debigulator/enthusiastic troublemaker. Neurodivergent AF.
I've been meaning to comment on this article for the last two weeks but life (aka lots of work) kept erasing my short term memory. But then I saw something recently that jogged my memory. Have you ever been to an virtual/online/digital conference where you're surrounded by a bunch of lifeless avatars in a mockup of a physical convention center/hotel lobby? The first time I saw one of these in a platform demo was ~2013. I thought we had moved on from a Second Life/Lawnmower Man* experience (*nods to the GenXers who get that Lawnmower Man reference) in favor of clean design and easy navigation, but I recently another one. In 2024. This is indicative of why digital and hybrid conferences fail: rather than build an experience exclusively for online audiences, we largely try to recreate the F2F experience using formats that just don't make sense for anyone outside of the physical conference venue. The points made here are spot on. Experiment. Build for digital audiences. Analyze the right data. Adapt. And don't give up on digital, because your audiences expect to get the content they need in an omni-channel approach. #associations #conferences #VirtualConference #ASAE

REMINDER: Only 1,5 weeks to go to one of the most inspiring period of the year: The International User Groups Conference 2024 (Tu. 9 - Th. 11 April, 2024). For those who did not know this yet, it will be hosted in the beautiful city of Dublin. It is not too late to register, book your transport and accomodation. Join us at this conference with loads of customer, partner and product presentations. And when I say loads, I mean loads. For the ARIS stream alone there are 19 (!) presentations divided over 1,5 days. Of these 19 there are 7 customer presentations, 2 partner presentations and 10 product presentations. Next to these presentations there are Usability Labs where you can test new features. But most important (in my view): by joining us you have the possibility to talk to your peers, exchange experiences and enlarge your network. Don't hesitate, check out the detailed agenda via below link and register to join us there! #IUG2024 #ARIS #SoftwareAG https://lnkd.in/eVSs3Ybk

It’s easy to get lost in the noise, especially when some industry #conferences are just echo chambers, repeating the same old buzzwords. ✅ But when chosen wisely, the right conferences can open doors to big opportunities and real business growth. For those navigating the maze of endless panels and pitches, here’s how we zero in on the events that really make a difference for our clients: 🎯 In-Person Matters: Direct interactions are invaluable for building trust and forging strong partnerships. 🎯 Picky About Events: Quality trumps quantity every time. We focus on gatherings that foster meaningful exchanges over superficial #networking. 🎯 Mix It Up: We attend a variety of events to ensure a well-rounded perspective, from large-scale conventions to specialized forums. 🎯 Select Strategically: We make #event decisions that are intentional, ensuring they meet our objectives as well as those of our clients, while remaining cost-effective. 🎯 Looking Ahead: We look for events that not only allow for networking but also provide #platforms for us to share insights and stand out. 🎯 Value Beyond Money: The real #ROI comes from the insights gained, relationships built, and the visibility enhanced in our industry. 👉 Interested in how strategic #conference participation can boost your business? Eye opening observations at #ifxexpointernational2024 👁 True calling The state of competition back in 2013 was much fiercer with multiple companies offering similar if not the same technology. Now the majority of tech providers in the space found their niche and are offering exemplar unmatched solutions for specific business cases. Companies seem to have found their key advantages and they keep on innovating in that space, rather than blatantly copying each other's features. Brokers simply don’t jump ships to a new tech provider because of a new feature, thus trying to replicate what your competition offers in hopes of “stealing” clients is basically a waste of time. The tech space of the industry is shifting towards complementary technology that empowers brokerages. More and more companies are becoming open and actively seeking partnerships. In some cases, such partnerships might even emerge between competitors. This is only possible when everybody in space is confident in their own technology. More tech providers have finally started to understand their advantages and started to introduce new functionality for their clients instead of looking after their competition for new ideas. I genuinely get excited when I hear about new updates from Tools for Brokers, Centroid Solutions, Match-Trade Technologies, Your Bourse and TraderEvolution Global Ltd. Each of us focuses on their own technology and their own vision of technology rather than trying to replicate each other's functionality. 🤝 Openness When I look back at iFX EXPO Dubai, which happened half a year ago, companies still maintained a level of protectiveness over their proprietary technology. That was not the case in Limassol, tech providers were keen to share, showcase their solutions openly and even give a thorough presentation. This only means that we are reaching a level of technological sophistication that will take years of RnD to catch up. It might be a result of (1) where companies are focusing on their own vision of technology, rather than implementing a feature because it is offered by another tech provider. Such openness inspires and bolsters larger leaps in innovation. 🎤 Insightful conversations. What used to be a handful of the same speakers on rotation, now we see an increasing number of true experts stepping out of the shadows and joining panel discussions and engaging in building a narrative for the development of the retail trading industry. The more POVs, the deeper the discussion, the higher overall expertise within the industry. Big shoutout to Eliza Danenfelde Kirpe, Duška Nedeljković, Juthasinee Muangket, Despina Chiladaki for curating the agenda and being persistent at vetting quality speakers.
