We are thrilled to announce that the Lake County Board has updated its landscaping regulations for new developments in ways that help to preserve biodiversity and enhance community health. These vital updates ensure that more native trees will be planted, along with a greater diversity of young trees. Invasive tree species are now prohibited. Openlands served as lead content advisor on the project, providing resources, market feasibility analyses, and options for consideration. This opens the door for a new generation of trees and plants, creating vibrant, resilient plantings for years to come!

🐝Pollinator of the week: Furry Peat Hoverfly 🌼 Plant of the week: Wild Angelica ✅ Action of the week: Find out how community groups can help pollinators Pollinators are in decline on the island of Ireland, but our records show that local populations are increasing where actions are being taken to help them. This is often thanks to the hard work of dedicated local groups who are changing the way they manage their communities for the benefit of pollinators and people. There are many ways communities can help pollinators and biodiversity. Many actions are low-cost or free. From lawn-art competitions to neighbourhood pollinator pathways, dispersed urban orchards and bee gardens, to entering the Tidy Towns Local Authority Pollinator Award, find out how communities are helping create a landscape where pollinators can survive and thrive. At The Hive Group, we acknowledge Wetlands as vital ecosystems that provide a multitude of ecosystem services to countless species. This year's World Wetlands Day will be commemorated under the theme "Human Well-being," highlighting the interconnectedness of wetlands with human life. In addition to the diverse ecosystem services they offer, it is imperative to recognize the support they provide to wild pollinators, crucial for our food supply. Conversely, the presence of pollinators contributes to the biodiversity of wetland ecosystems and provides ecosystem services beyond pollination. By restoring wetlands, we're not just safeguarding our own well-being; we're also ensuring the survival of these vital pollinators. Let's advocate for wetland conservation and promote sustainable practices that benefit both humans and pollinators alike. Together, we can forge a healthier, more resilient future for all. 🌍💚 #Worldwetlandsday #HumanWellBeing #Pollinators #BeeConservation #sustainability #worldwetlandsday2024 #savethebees

Big forest news! The USDA Forest Service has awarded American Forests $12 million to help tribes, Native Hawaiian organizations and other underserved communities access financial and technical support for resilient reforestation. Here’s some of what the funding will do: 💚Support more than 10 tribes and over 1,000 underserved landowners including Native Hawaiian organizations over three years. 🌲Help landowners restore damaged forests so they can once more provide important environment, recreational and social benefits. 📈Help forest owners participate in emerging markets that offer new sources of revenue for restoring healthy and resilient forests. This award is one of 20 from the U.S. Forest Service that will help landowners overcome barriers to reforestation. We’re excited to collaborate with the National Indian Carbon Coalition, California Association of Resource Conservation Districts, University of Hawaiʻi, Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation, Resources Legacy Fund, and Spatial Informatics Group, LLC Group to bring these projects to life. 🙌 Learn more about this exciting initiative: https://bit.ly/3x3mlFY

Land Management Consultant | Maximising Land Value While Enhancing Wildlife Habitats | Specialist in Sustainable Land Use
The Ecological Benefits of Ivy Ivy often gets a bad rap, but it plays a crucial role in our ecosystems. This time of year, ivy hedges are alive with activity, attracting butterflies, honeybees and hoverflies. As wildflowers bloomed early this year, this ivy provides essential late-season nectar for pollinators. Importantly, ivy is unlikely to harm trees and instead offers shelter and support for wildlife. So, let’s recognise ivy as a valuable asset in promoting biodiversity and supporting our local ecosystems. Simply leaving an area of your existing lawn to grow long will be beneficial to wildlife and have a positive effect on biodiversity, as the long grass will provide habitat and shelter, and flowering species will be able to bloom as they are not being constantly cut back. However, there are ways to speed up the process and further boost biodiversity in your rewilding zone. That is why we have partnered with Tom Massey, an award-winning designer and garden expert with a heart for biodiversity, to boost your rewilding zone and bring nature back into your garden. Here are Tom's best 10 tips on how to give an immediate boost to biodiversity. Link: https://lnkd.in/enYWMuzN #husqvarna #husqvarnaireland #biodiversity #rewildingmode #automower

Today is World Nature Conservation Day, the aim of which is to create awareness about the importance of our environment, natural resources and safeguarding our ecosystems. It coincides with National Tree Day encouraging tree planting, environmental care and preservation. According to the founders of National Tree Day - Planet Ark, since it began in 1996 a whopping 27 million trees have been planted. Why not celebrate today and adopt a tree for just $5, we also sell koala food trees to landholders for $1. Land clearing for development is the main threat to koala habitat, by planting more trees we can preserve their rapidly shrinking habitat. Just last April, we announced that our Community Native Plant Nursery has distributed 964,000 trees which were either sold or given to landholders and habitat restoration groups across the Northern Rivers. A remarkable effort and something we are very proud of. #WorldNatureConservationDay #NationalTreeDay Adopt a tree: https://ow.ly/osCL50SsOiy Read more: https://ow.ly/cLnP50SsOix A full list of trees can be found here: https://lnkd.in/ghktVuui
