Exciting News! A groundbreaking quantitative assessment by CO2 Value Europe reveals the pivotal role of Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) in achieving climate neutrality in the EU. 🌍 🔍 Key findings: -At least 20% of GHG reduction from technologies by 2050 will come from CCU. -CCU is poised to answer at least 13% of the EU's primary energy demand by 2050. -The EU can capture 320 MtCO2, with half being used as feedstock. However, successful CCU deployment requires a robust regulatory framework within the EU and international cooperation to address specific challenges. Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is a critical tool in the fight against climate change. These technologies—many of which are still in development and need our support— have the potential to rebalance our carbon budget and mitigate the most adverse effects of climate change. But as we’ve seen with the scandals that have plagued the traditional voluntary carbon markets (VCMs), not all carbon credits are created equal. While the Science Based Targets initiative reports may have been a letdown for those in the climate credit space, there is some joy in seeing some of our forecasted outcomes coming to life so quickly. Also, it is important to not lose sight of the ongoing efforts for high-integrity climate action. Just yesterday, the The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) rejected methodologies covering renewables for #CCP-eligibility over additionality concerns. A challenging decision, especially since renewable energy offset credits dominate the open volumes in the VCM. However, it was necessary to ensure funding goes to environmental projects that truly need support. Interestingly, this is another prediction from our forecast model that came true! A big thanks to Harry Horner & Urvashi Thakur for seamlessly integrating me into the carbon credit space and for the work we accomplished together in building a robust offset forecast model. New legislation in the USA.🗽 The newly introduced Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Leadership Act Of 2024 will call on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to permanently remove CO2 emissions from the air and would require that DOE apply technological solutions, such as direct air capture (DAC). The CDR Leadership Act outlines the maximum costs of carbon removal per metric ton of CO2 year by year up to 2035 and beyond, as well as the amounts of carbon emissions needed to be removed on an annual basis, in order to reach climate goals and effectively limit global warming.🌍 Will we see similar legislation being introduced on this side of the Atlantic? #carbonremoval #dac #directaircapture #carboncapture #climatetech

As a tech and AI nerd I am also aware of the climate impact that tech has and the CO2 emissions produced. This week several climate reports show that we are not moving fast enough! 😢 Did you know that even though everyone reach net zero. We still need to permanently remove HUGE amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere permanently??!! 😱 Microsoft is leading the way and is the worlds biggest buyer of Voluntary Carbon Removal Credits. They have set out to compensate for all their CO2 debt, meaning all the CO2 they have emitted to this day. Impressive! 🤩 What is your companys CO2 debt and how does your amortization plan look?
