Greetings from Pau & the Industrial Carbon Management Forum! I had the pleasure of spending a few days in Pau, France, where we engaged in some quite pragmatic discussions on CCS, CCU and CDR. Here are a couple of takeaways: ❗️New participation records! This year, about 550 people from 24 countries attended in person, with 2600 joining online. The momentum around CCUS remains strong. 🥇The Commission is keeping CCUS high on the agenda. One key focus is CO2 transport infrastructure, a crucial area that requires input from all stakeholders. Be prepared to share your views once consultations begin. 💪🏻 Finland was one of six countries (FI, DK, FR, DE, NL & SE) to issue a Joint Pau Declaration on establishing an appropriate European framework for cross-border CO2 infrastructure. The statement highlights the importance of CO2 transport infrastructure as a key enabler of CCUS value chains. It also emphasizes the concern that if a clear regulatory framework is not established in a timely manner (early in the new Commission’s mandate), it could become a bottleneck in developing the full CCUS value chain and a common European market. 📞The Commission called for Member States to develop their own industrial carbon management strategies. This is something we’ve been pushing for in Finland, and now is the time to get to work on our long-term strategy. For example, France published its strategy this July with clear targets for 2030, 2040, and 2050, while e.g. Germany and Poland are also progressing with their plans. 💸 Business case remains a challenge in many projects, and current funding mechanisms are insufficient to meet targets. E.g. increased CEF funding will be particularly important for countries that currently lack the resources to fully support the cross-border value chain. Additionally, it’s clear that, beyond CAPEX, a solid OPEX strategy is also needed for all solutions. Looking ahead, I hope to see more in-depth discussions on industrial carbon removals as necessary building blocks of these value chains. As highlighted during the event, CCUS can be a significant competitive advantage for Europe if we get it right — so let’s make sure we do! 👊🏻

Cost Estimation Engineer at Estico Consulting Services - Outsourcing Material Takeoff and Cost Estimation Services for United States
The Fan Energy Index (FEI) is a quantitative measure developed to assess the energy efficiency of fan systems within HVAC applications. FEI, while a relatively technical concept, can be distilled into a simple idea: it measures how energy-efficient a fan is in real-world operating conditions. The FEI metric aims to prevent market behaviors focused on initial costs that could lead to less efficient choices. As the industry leans into sustainability and decarbonization, FEI has emerged as a critical tool. Created by the Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA), FEI-rated or certified products are increasingly sought after. This surge in interest is a response to a global call for more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient buildings.

One year ago, Houlder released a whitepaper that was created with the aim of identifying and addressing the key maritime decarbonisation challenges and using this to support the energy transition. A major challenge in meeting shipping’s decarbonisation goals is the relatively slow pace of clean technology adoption. Identifying and addressing barriers to decarbonisation, and proactively collaborating to overcome them is key. Learn more and access the whitepaper here: https://lnkd.in/euzSKpdw
