So much to reflect on after being selected to attend this year's EERA European Educational Research Association summer school program wiith a titled theme - Decolonise, Democratise, and Develop. It was an opportunity to bond with some powerful academics and scholars out there but also re-evaluate how we do our research in education. Take Adult Education as an example - authors from UK, US, Australia and Canada have authored 66% of all articles published. 85% of the most quoted authors live geographically in those 4 Anglophone countries and 72% are men. So, next time you read an academic or non-academic article about international education in particular - check out the references used, who is given the most platform to address international education issues and are we really writing about international education if our bibliometric data is from the four above-mentioned countries? Some of the many issues to reflect on.

Is transnational education (TNE) the future of global higher education? Within the theme of "Transnational Education & Branch Campuses," an #IHE119 article by Janet B. Ilieva, Eduardo Ramos and Michael Peak highlights TNE's growing impact. This includes bridging education supply-demand gaps, enhancing access for disadvantaged groups and supporting international student hubs. Challenges Include: 🔹Lack of global frameworks 🔹Limited host country perspective 🔹Insufficient data How can we maximize TNE's potential while addressing these issues? I am pleased to share that our publication on transnational education (TNE), co-authored by Eduardo Ramos and Michael Peak, has been featured in the summer edition of #IHE119. This article draws on the discussions held at the British Council's Deep Dialogue series, expertly curated by Nishat Riaz MBE, which took place at Edinburgh Napier University in March 2024. We are grateful to Hans (J.W.M.) de Wit for his valuable feedback and support. Some key observations from the article include: - A significant expansion of collaborative TNE in recent years. - This growth is primarily driven by increasing student demand. - Growing regulatory support for TNE among countries with large youthful populations, such as #India, #Pakistan, and #Nigeria. - An increase in the number of educational institutions engaged in delivering TNE programs. The emergence of mega higher education systems, as referenced above, will shape the future of #highered. Collaborative forms of TNE offer a means to engage with these developments.
