❗️If we are building a system that will be more intelligent than humans, then we have to accept that one day on our planet we will have a second word in decision-making, no longer the first. 😉 It is not about wanting to dominate the world, it is just about who will make the last decision. 🫢 The question of what this means (good/bad) for humans is another debate (I think it’s good), I just wanted to point out a fact that I think we can't avoid. For example, the openAI team has set up a superalignment team because, according to their conclusions: “But humans won’t be able to reliably supervise AI systems much smarter than us, and so our current alignment techniques will not scale to superintelligence. The debate over open-source AI is not just technical but also ethical and political, with implications for the control, accessibility, and direction of AI research and development. These questions make for great cocktail party conversations. They are intellectually intriguing. However, it is also a ton of fun to simply dive in. Full acceptance of what is happening in this rapidly changing area. EXPERIMENT and USE all of it right now. That, is fascinating, too. I haven't been as excited about tech for may years. TIME AI 100 List -- Wondering why, most of the lead authors of "Attention Is All You Need" paper, have missed out making to the "Time AI List". Well, it is the sculpture made with the tools that matters. That explains Noam Shazeer’s inclusion (the only author of the transformer paper included). Or for that matter Sam Altman’s inclusion (OpenAI’s chatgpt is still an engineering marvel rather than pathbreaking AI research) "Attention Is All You Need" is the groundbreaking paper which introduced the scalable "transformer" architecture to the world. This technology can easily be used to create misleading political statements, fabricate scandals, or impersonate individuals, undermining both personal reputations and collective societal trust in media. As deepfakes proliferate, they heighten the risk of misinformation. Users may find it increasingly difficult to determine the authenticity of what they see and hear, leading to confusion and polarization. News outlets and social platforms are grappling with how to detect and mitigate the spread of these deceptive materials effectively. While some argue that deepfakes can serve entertainment or artistic purposes, the broader implications for democracy and informed citizenship are worrisome. Combating this challenge requires a concerted effort involving technological solutions, media literacy education, and rigorous fact-checking. By fostering critical thinking and digital literacy among the public, society can better navigate the murky waters of modern information, ensuring that reality is not overshadowed by sophisticated fabrications.

Is it just me, or have we not stopped to truly marvel at the dramatic revolution happening in AI and LLMs? Let's take a moment and appreciate that. This is not an everyday tech update. This is the dawn of a new technological epoch. Right now, there's a phenomenon unfurling around us: Generative AI and LLMs are transforming how we interact with technology - making previously complex tasks simplified. These systems rise to meet daily challenges and solve them with remarkable effectiveness – whether it be generating natural language text or developing sophisticated data analysis software. It's awe-inspiring! However, as engineers and leaders tasked to work with these technologies, we must tread carefully, ensuring we harness their potential responsibly. Because remember, with great power...well, you know the rest. So here's a toast to our new tech overlords! May we use them wisely but remember that our greatest strength still lies in our humanity.
