Meet Arthur Ugalde, Branch Outreach Specialist 👋 Greetings! My name is Arthur, and I am a proud member of the Community Engagement Department here at OCLS. As your friendly neighborhood outreach specialist, I wanted you to know more about me. I’m a huge science nerd with a love of horror movies and video games. I have been teaching science and providing outreach throughout our community for a decade and currently work out of South Trail Branch to bring services all over the county. Some of my proudest outreach moments include the creation of “Library Take Over Day” at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where every three months library staff provide activities, storytimes and educational fun to all patients and their families for an entire day! As an outreach specialist, I get to bring everything OCLS has to offer and more to help make our community the best it can be. I wear my library swag with pride! Back in 2018, I first started to think about how we could get textbooks sitting unused in a class cupboard in London shared with a cash-strapped school in Yorkshire. After five years of hard graft, School Resources Exchange properly got going last year. While it has been challenging to say the least, it's also pretty amazing to be starting 2024 with a live service that is already being used by and helping hundreds of schools. The focus for this year is simple - help more schools. What we're doing is a no-brainer. It's a free service which can benefit every single school in the UK. The impact of sharing surplus items between schools is a genuine game-changer on so many levels.
