Meet Lianne Velez, Branch Outreach Specialist 👋 Hello! My name is Lianne and I LOVE libraries! Growing up in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, I think about how I learned to use computers during summer classes at the children’s library. After my family moved to Orlando, I frequently visited Southeast Branch to check out books and movies as we learned the English language. So, when it came time to pick a career, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I have had the pleasure of working for Orange County Library System for over 10 years. Working in outreach, I bring everything I love about libraries to our community. This includes hosting storytimes at parks and daycare centers, presenting fun and educational events for older adults at senior centers and facilitating pop-up libraries for families at outreach events. The library has something for everyone, so next time you see me or my colleagues out in the community, stop by and ask us how we can help you learn, grow and connect!

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲! 👦 👧 Celebrating National Children’s Day can be a wonderful opportunity to honor and enjoy children’s rights. Here are some ideas: ➡ Organize a Party: Plan a fun-filled party with games, music, and food that children love. ➡ Educational Activities: Arrange for educational activities like a visit to a museum, science center, or a zoo. ➡ Outdoor Activities: Plan outdoor activities like a picnic, a day at the beach, or a hike. Physical activities are not only fun but also promote health and well-being. ➡ Arts and Crafts: Organize an arts and crafts session. This can help children express their creativity. ➡ Community Service: Involve children in community service. This can teach them the importance of giving back to the community. ➡ Gifts: Give children gifts like books, toys, or art supplies. These can be both fun and educational. ➡ Storytelling Session: Arrange a storytelling session. This can be an enjoyable way to improve children’s language skills. Remember, the aim of National Children’s Day is to celebrate children and promote their well-being. So, whatever you plan, make sure it’s something that children will enjoy and benefit from. 💕 🎈 #NationalChildrensDay #Childrensright

Through our signature program, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, the Foundation supports the hiring of adoption professionals, known as recruiters, who are dedicated to finding permanent families for children in foster care who are too often overlooked. That includes teenagers, children with special needs and siblings. Recruiters use an evidence-based, child-focused recruitment model to find the right family for every child. A rigorous, five-year national evaluation revealed that children referred to the program are up to 3x more likely to be adopted. The child-focused recruitment focuses on three areas: ❤️ Finding the right family for the child ❤️ Respecting a child’s voice, privacy and dignity ❤️ The belief that every child is adoptable. Teaching our youth the importance of service and Being useful to others is crucial… At Give Back School, We emphasise this value by bringing ten of our students each week to feed the homeless in downtown Rio de Janeiro. This hands-on experience not only provides immediate relief to those in need But also instals a deep sense of empathy and social responsibility in our students. → By directly engaging with the community, → They learn the significance of giving back, → Understanding the impact of their actions, and → Developing a lifelong commitment to helping others. I believe that this practice cultivates a generation that values service and promotes selflessness. Live Generously Umberto —--------- PS.
