Do you believe in the saying, "We are what we eat?" I recently attended a session on ADHD and its connection to dopamine, nutrition, and gut health led by Dana Chapman. Highly recommend reaching out to Dana to learn more about this topic. The session shed light on some fascinating takeaways. For instance, the effects of too high or too low dopamine levels can be the same. ⚖️ Did you know that music and cold water immersion can help regulate dopamine levels? Also, testing for nutritional absorption can be beneficial in managing ADHD naturally. It's worth noting that individuals with ADHD are more likely to experience deficiencies in key minerals and vitamins that support memory, focus, and happiness. As a result, we're making some changes to our Holbrook kitchen cupboards and menus going forward. 🙌🙌 Let's prioritize our health and wellbeing through proper nutrition and education. Move your fruit and vegetables out of the bottom drawer and put them in your line of sight. Put your condiments in the bottom drawer - you will go looking for those... This was a key insight shared in my latest talk on nutrition for ADHD focusing on Dopamine. Unfortunately, I can't take the credit for it, this was shared by a participant as advice that has helped her to stop throwing fresh fruit and vegetables away. The ADHD tax can include throwing fresh food away because you forgot it was there, or you lacked the motivation or inspiration to cook it or eat it. We all know the value of fruit and vegetables but frozen is just as good as fresh in some cases. I love to have frozen veg in the freezer it is so versatile and it doesn't go off as quickly as fresh veg. If you'd like to learn more about how Nutritional Therapy and Lifestyle medicine can be used to support ADHD symptoms then do join my next webinar. I hold them every last Friday of the month at 1pm. Appetite 🍏🥬🍆🫒🌽🥭🍓🫐🥑🫑 It’s a complex thing and most of the one to one work I do with my clients in my ADHD Nutrition Clinic involves understanding appetite. Many of my clients report that they feel they: Eat too much Eat too little Eat inconsistently Crave certain foods Feel that they don’t eat ‘healthily’ There are many factors to consider when it comes to understanding appetite. Things that we investigate in clinic include: Executive functions and challenges Hormones and neurotransmitter balance Hunger and satiety hormones and signals Food intolerances Learned behaviours around food Blood sugar imbalances Stress and sleep Each of these factors can have a marked influence on our relationship with food. Working to understand YOUR drivers is often the first step to developing a balanced, rewarding relationship with food. #adhd #adhdawareness #adhdsupport #adhdcoaching #food #diet #appetite #cravings #weightloss #weightmanagement #foodfreedom #ibs #eathealthy #bloodsugarbalance

Autism and ADHD Coach Africa||I Help Parents of kids with ASD & ADHD Understand Their Child's Unique Needs & Strategies Thier Kids Need To Thrive || Lead Coach at Autismtherapy_withJane||Special Education Needs Advocate
𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐜 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦? I remember a conversation with a concerned parent some days ago who was looking for ways to support her child's development. She had heard about zinc but wasn’t sure how it could help or where to find it beyond supplements. Zinc is a vital nutrient that supports brain function and the immune system, and it can play an important role in the development of children with autism. I am not one that advocates against supplements but encourages parents to do more with natural food and less supplements. But how can you ensure your child gets enough zinc without relying solely on supplements? 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐜-𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 your child's 𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐭: 📍Meat and Poultry: Beef, chicken, and turkey are excellent sources of zinc. 📍Seafood: Oysters, crab, and lobster are high in zinc. 📍Dairy Products: Milk, cheese, and yogurt can provide a good amount of zinc (that's if you are not on a Casein free diet) 📍Nuts and Seeds: Pumpkin seeds, cashews, and almonds are great options. 📍Legumes: Chickpeas, lentils, and beans are also rich in zinc. And others.... Remember, nutrition plays a significant role in supporting your child’s development. Professionals in nutrition and health, what other tips do you have for increasing zinc intake naturally? I'd love to hear from you. #parentingtips #autismadhdcoach #coachingforparents #autism #adhd

How do I know what to eat and not eat with ADHD part 2 4. **Watch Caffeine Intake:** Monitor caffeine intake, as excessive caffeine can exacerbate symptoms of ADHD, such as restlessness and impulsivity. Opt for moderate amounts of caffeine from sources like tea or coffee if needed. 5. **Consider Food Sensitivities:** Pay attention to any food sensitivities or allergies that may exacerbate ADHD symptoms. Common culprits include gluten, dairy, and artificial additives. Experiment with eliminating or reducing these foods to see if there's an improvement in symptoms. 6. **Stay Hydrated:** Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Dehydration can worsen symptoms of ADHD, so it's important to maintain adequate fluid intake. Remember, individual responses to food can vary, so it's essential to listen to your body and work with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian to develop a personalized nutrition plan tailored to your specific needs.

Interesting article. I have a big bag, bulging with supplements. Are they worth it? Until my autism and ADHD discoveries aged 55 in 2021 the only supplement I took was vitamin D in the winter. Now, bear with me. Remember I am autistic and ADHD. This is what's in my big bag of potions to help me feel fabulous: Vit D3/K2, 4000 iug B12 Magnesium glycinate Zinc Iron Lion's mane Turmeric Omega 3 Mullien Leaf Collagen Probiotics Yes, really 😱 Am I taking them? Not properly. Some make me feel ick and I started rattling as I walk down the street. I feel a bit silly being taken in by all the hype and advice from lots of different sources. Many people find supplements beneficial. I wonder how much of it is the placebo effect. We do have to be careful about what we take I reckon. How much? Combining them and whether we need them at all. There are countless claims by the ever growing number of suppliers all desperate for our attention and dosh. For now I've gone back to eating well - ISH, going out for walks and keeping stress down by ensuring my physical and emotional needs are met. Sorry bag of potions. It's gone from a prominent place for me to remember to behind a cupboard in the spare, spare room. Out of sight, out of mind 🤓 #supplements #vitamins #healthyliving #mentalhealth #autism #autistic #ADHD
