Organising the third edition of PalladiOlimpiadi 2024 with my marketing colleagues has once again been both an energising and challenging experience. Coordinating an event of this scale requires detailed planning, collaboration, a lot of passion…and a bit of luck!   Must-have: 📅 meticulous #planning: every detail, from logistics to schedules, required more spreadsheets than we’d like to admit 🙌 passionate and committed #teamwork: one giant, well-oiled machine ✅ #flexibility and problem-solving: also known as “Wait, the tennis court is double-booked?” and other daily surprises 👩🚀stakeholder engagement: aligning everyone’s expectations – because what’s a major event without a few hundred opinions? One might wonder what a multinational pharmaceutical company would be doing with AS Roma. First thoughts that might come to mind, is a general club partnership, however, it is the AS Roma women’s team leading the way here, with multinational pharmaceutical company IBSA signing up as the women's team's first ever exclusive front-of-shirt sponsor. Front of shirt brand sponsorships have traditionally been allocated to one brand across both men’s and women’s kits, as part of principle deals, however, with the exponential growth taking place within Women’s Football. This creates major opportunities for standalone front of shirt sponsorships within the women’s game, that will be open to brands from multiple sectors. From Football Media experience of having our client brand, ZO Skin Health brand on the back of the West Ham Women’s team shirt since 2019. At the time, the front of shirt sponsorship was taken across the men’s and women’s shirt, by one brand, however, ZO Skin Health has seen significant brand up lift metrics from the back of shirt placement alone, benefiting from periods where WSL consumption has seen increases of over 285%. A brand within the pharmaceutical sector aligning with Women’s Football should be a moment of realisation to brands that might have more of a direct natural synergy with Women’s Football and its audiences. Attention athletes and sports professionals! As of 01/01/2022, local steroid injections into joints are now prohibited during competition. However, athletes can still apply for therapeutic use of exception when the last dose is administered within seven days of competition via oral, IV, or rectal routine. Additionally, when administered by intramuscular injection, athletes can apply for therapeutic use of exception within eight weeks of competition. It's important to note that athletes requiring intraarticular injection of a steroid are only required to apply for therapeutic use of exception when there is doping control in competition or they are required to complete an adverse analytical finding from when glucocorticoid is detected. The UFC Removes Cannabis from the Banned Substance List In 2021, the Nevada State Athletic Commission declared cannabis was not a performance-enhancing drug, officially legalizing it for MMA athletes. On Thursday, December 28, 2023, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announced the removal of cannabis from the banned substance list effective December 31st, 2023. In past years, the strict rules and policies had sidelined many Pro-MMA athlete careers, forcing them to leverage pharmaceuticals, opioids and painkillers to deal with the demanding seasons. Over the past decade, athletes have advocated for clean alternatives to help cope with recovery and relief, citing opioids/painkillers as addictive blanket solutions for their injuries. With sporting leagues adopting new policies to provide for cannabis consumption, the UFC has revised its approach to natural healing modalities. One key takeaway from Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s success. ⚽ Those of you who know me well know: I'm a Werder Bremen fan. Always have been and always will be. However, I'll be the first to admit I have a soft spot for Leverkusen. My grandfather used to support them and I actually had an Ulf Kirsten jersey at home (kudos if you remember that legend!). But it's not just nostalgia that gives me a sweet spot for Leverkusen. It's their approach to developing and handling talent. The team is loaded with talent - on the field and throughout the coaching staff. All of that talent wasn't necessarily rooted in experience but more so in potential. Leverkusen has successfully invested in potential by relying on that potential rather than using experience to fill the gaps. This season they reaped the rewards! That's something we could use in our day-to-day business. Don't just rely on experience just because it's easy. Take the risk and place a bet on the potential you see in people.
