Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, aims to create awareness for children suffering from cancer. Every day 10 children in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer, 2 of which will not survive. Those who do, may suffer long-term side effects into adulthood. CCAM is not only about generating awareness, it’s about supporting those children throughout their lives, to reduce the impact of the long-term effects. #CCAM #childhoodcancer #childhoodcancerawarenessmonth

“We quarrel, laugh, and make happy memories together." 💛 On National Siblings Day, we want to honour the bond of love, friendship, and companionship between siblings. At Kids Cancer Care, we offer Sibling Support Program which is made keeping siblings in mind. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it not only affects them but the whole family. Parents are understandably very busy attending appointments and providing extra care for the child who is ill. Sometimes, the healthy siblings become quiet and keep to themselves. Other times, they try to find connections in challenging ways. Through our program siblings will be able to learn about cancer, so the whole experience can become a bit less scary. The program also gives them a way to express their feelings and explore them with someone close to them (if they choose), as well as tools to understand what they are feeling and what to do about it. A common sentence that our families say? "There's life before the diagnosis, and there's life after." For 308 of our families, May means bringing awareness about the most critical part of the whole family's lives: brain cancer. A childhood cancer diagnosis changes every aspect of a family's life. It's not just about treatment options and doctors. In addition to chemo and treatments and figuring out medical bills, it means questions about every aspect of every day life. Can Mom or Dad continue working? Who'll help brother or sister get to school or practice? How many weeks can we be away from home if the treatment center isn't close by? This May, we ask you to keep every one of our 2,300+ children and their families in mind, but especially those struggling with a brain cancer diagnosis. You can make a difference for so many children on their cancer journey in the Carolinas. Learn more about what we do and how we help at https://lnkd.in/eWrE_gd2.
