Was honoured to meet with Tony Maas, Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister, to discuss Canada's 2030 National Biodiversity Strategy and the proposed Nature Accountability Act. It's crucial that this Strategy has legal-teeth, holds up Indigenous rights and titles, and is adequately funded. Perhaps we can redirect subsidies from nature-harming industries (looking at you old growth and clear-cut logging) to fund this Strategy over the long-term. We also identified a low-hanging fruit win for the federal government: introduce a mandatory 1,000-metre vessel buffer for recreational and commercial whale-watching vessels around endangered Southern Resident killer whales. This would match the protections provided by Washington State after the passing of their Senate Bill 5371, which will come into effect in 2025. #science #policy #biodiversity

Indigenous knowledge and Rights advocate. Environmental and climate action. Speaker. Advisory Capacity.Storytelling. Research and Policy. The New Lion Project. Kofi Annan Changemaker 2024
Advice for tourists who visit indigenous territories. If you are visiting a national park or going on safari, be aware that you could be supporting "FORTRESS CONSERVATION". Millions of indigenous people have been illegally evicted from their ancestral homeland in the name of conservation. These evictions continue today and destroy indigenous people and communities. DO's 1.Inform yourself before you go and boycott the unethical travel. 2 PRIORITIZE companies that work closely with indigenous people and share any profits equally with them. 3.RESPECT the culture and the way of life of the indigenous people you visit. DON'TS 1.Support conservation organization that back indigenous evictions to create parks. 2.Visit areas where indigenous territories have been evicted in their territories. 3.Take a video or photo of the indigenous People without their consent. Wilderness are considered as colonial Myth. Lands were considered empty so that they could be taken but those lands are not nature those are people's homes. Source :Survival International. Celebrating World Environment Day 2024! This year's World Environment Day theme focuses on land restoration, stopping desertification, and building drought resilience. These crucial efforts are directly linked to mitigating human-wildlife conflict. By restoring degraded lands, we create healthier habitats, reducing the chances of negative encounters between humans and wildlife. At The Corbett Foundation, habitat restoration is a core strategy in our initiatives to foster peaceful coexistence. We are proud to officially launch our publication, "Fostering Coexistence," which provides a comprehensive overview of sustainable solutions and strategic measures to address human-wildlife negative interactions. Join us in promoting harmonious relations and preserving our natural heritage for a thriving future. We are grateful to our funders and partners for their support for all our endeavours. Managing Partner & CEO of INTEGRA Group - Balancing Development with the Environment ■ EUROPARC Federation President ■ Partnership Foundation Board Member
Besides #natureconservation experts and #protectedareas managers, #rangers are certainly one of the most important professions in Protected Areas, if not the most important when it comes to communication with laymen. We talked with President of European Ranger Federation (ERF) Urs Reif about why this is so and how activities of EUROPARC Federation and ERF are related to each other.
If we want to preserve our natural resources, this can no longer just happen separately in protected areas. Working towards more sustainable development and nature conservation in local communities is also becoming increasingly urgent, not least in order to fulfil nature conservation goals such as the recently enacted EU Nature Restoration Law. Michael Hošek and Urs Reif agree that community development and the interests of the people must be taken into account – and that rangers are an important link in this process. In our double interview, the President of the EUROPARC Federation and the European Ranger Federation discuss starting points for closer cooperation in this regard, for example in the important role of junior rangers, and give an outlook on the work of the two nature conservation organisations for this year: Visit the News section on our website (or click link in first comment)! . . . #protectedareas #naturerestorationlaw #sdgs #30x30 #juniorranger #europeanrangers #rangers

🌳🦋🦡 Today, on International #BiodiversityDay, it’s time to confront the stark reality of wildlife decline in the UK and how we can be #PartOfThePlan to restore it. 🌍 We’re one of the worst countries in the world for nature loss, having lost almost a fifth of our wildlife populations in the last 50 years. 🦡 And the horrific badger cull, development concerns and cruel persecution mean Britain's badgers are threatened with local extinction for the first time in 250,000 years. 🌳 Thousands of people, including #badger champions, celebrities, and almost 200 environment groups from across the UK, are coming together to support nature. 💚 In just one month, the Restore Nature Now march in London will be a pivotal stand against the destruction of our environment. We're demanding that our leaders take decisive action now to save our environment. The future of all species, including ours, depends on what we do right now. 🐾 MARCH from Park Lane to Parliament Square in the biggest environmental rally the UK has ever seen! 🫧 Family Friendly 🤙 Accessible 🌈 Colourful ✨ Powerful We'll be there, will you join us?👇 https://buff.ly/49KTQL2

Important initiative, listening to people whose lives will be affected by initiatives such as the designation of marine protected areas and offshore renewables is the first step
If Marine Protected Areas are really going to work, then real voices need to be represented throughout the process. Join WWF-India to celebrate Earth Hour today, March 23rd. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) India is set to celebrate Earth Hour 2024 on March 23 from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., worldwide. To observe the day, people around the world switch off their lights for an hour as a symbol of committing to the planet Earth. This year, on Earth Hour, people will be shutting down their lights for an hour from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm their local time. Earth Hour, which began in #Sydney, #Australia, in 2007 is an event that emphasises raising awareness about climate change. Since then, it has evolved into a global movement, inspiring millions of people to switch off non-essential lights for an hour. It was first observed on March 31, 2007, at 7:30 pm as per the local time in Sydney, urging residents to turn off their lights. #earthhour #climate #climatechange Earth Hour
