🔻It’s not okay to starve children🔻 The mindset that exploits starvation as a tactic in conflicts goes beyond the bounds of humanity, constituting a heinous violation of international law and basic moral principles. 🐣Deliberately subjecting innocent civilians, particularly children, to hunger for strategic advantage is not only morally reprehensible but also a flagrant #warcrime. 👎It erodes the fundamental fabric of societies, leaving lasting scars that hinder recovery and reconciliation. 🌎The international community must condemn such actions unequivocally to protect the dignity and rights of those caught in the crossfire. #HumanitarianCrisis #EthicalLeadership #InternationalLaw #HumanRights #GlobalJustice #GenocidePrevention #Peace #HumanDignitity

On International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Slavery, we are remembering the millions of men, women and children who were brutalized in slavery through the transatlantic slave trade. This is not just a reminder to #RememberSlavery and its legacy of racism and prejudice that lives on today, but a call to action. The transatlantic slave trade would not have come to an end without the powerful activism of people who were themselves enslaved. They bravely shared their first-hand experiences, built awareness and mobilised community action bringing an end the horrors of historical slavery. Today, we need to do more to create the space to empower survivor leaders who know better than anyone that we need change. The Freedom United community is actively demanding a global society where modern slavery no longer thrives and where survivors are empowered to lead. You can do two things today to join the fight against modern slavery and help build a movement that is led by survivors and informed by lived experience. 🖋️ Take action by signing the My Story, My Dignity Pledge and commit to represent modern slavery and survivors’ experiences with dignity: https://lnkd.in/dXY-BG9 💬Tell us if you think enough is being done to #RememberSlavery and victims of the transatlantic slave trade? Would you like to see more memorials? And do memorials go far enough? 🤔 Share your thoughts in the comments & how slavery is remembered wherever you are in the world 👇

Every year, on the 24th of March, we unite to commemorate the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims. This day serves as a solemn reminder of our unwavering commitment to uncovering the truth and seeking justice for victims of atrocities. PEJ works tirelessly to shed light on past injustices, holding perpetrators accountable before it's too late. Our mission is to ensure that the voices of victims are heard and their stories acknowledged. As advocates for truth and accountability, we stand in solidarity with those who have suffered gross human rights violations. From executions to enforced disappearances, victims and their families deserve answers, closure, and justice. In transitional processes, the right to truth is not just a principle; it's a beacon of hope for reconciliation and healing. By uncovering the truth, we pave the way for communities to confront their past, learn from it, and build a better future based on justice and respect for human rights. Together, we honor the memory of victims, amplify their voices, and work towards a world where atrocities are never forgotten and justice is always served. #RightToTruth #JusticeForAll

To have a peaceful life is a human right, and it is the state [1] and the global community’s duty to protect and maintain it. However, when this duty is not carried out, we have the collective responsibility as global citizens to demand for accountability for the restoration of our basic human right to peace, justice, and order. To just stand still and watch as thousands of children, civilians, and fellow human beings are being killed, injured, and displaced, is the same as being complicit in this ongoing crime against humanity. Hence, it is our moral obligation to educate ourselves, engage, and not be silenced, but rather clamor — as loud as we can — to advocate for understanding, empathy, and dialogue. We continue to hope for a peaceful world, as this is the only thing that they cannot take away from us. We hope for the governments, civil society, communities, and individuals like us to collaborate for peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16) [2]. We hope we continue to act, spread awareness, and work for long-term solutions to the problems of safety, violence, and conflicts. Last, but not the least, we hope that we remember our shared humanity and strive for peace as we build a world where every individual can flourish without fear or violence. 🕊️ #CeaseFireNow References: [1] https://lnkd.in/ga3wvmCM [2] https://lnkd.in/gH96he4

I'm confused on what problem(s) to solve, what fear(s) to allay, and what desire(s) to help people achieve. But when I do make up my mind, I'd start building. Not sure, but it might take a while. (Bigford Oyekan)

Today and every day, we honor the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples and communities who have endured centuries of oppression. May our collective commitment to truth, reconciliation, and healing guide us towards a brighter future, where we acknowledge the past, learn from its injustices – including the tragic legacy of residential schools and the attempted genocide – and strive for justice, equity, and unity. 🧡🧡 #TruthAndReconciliationDay #OrangeShirtDay
