Ten years ago, we conducted our first ever #DCT study! 🗓️ This was at a time when the concept of decentralised clinical trials was still in its infancy. This multicentre pilot-study evaluated the correlation between a patients' activity-level and the 6-minute walk distance over 6 months in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). How is that DCT? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵. 🚶♂️⌚ It is fascinating to see how DCT has developed over the last ten years. We are celebrating almost a decade of #DCT at Alcedis! 🗓️ Back then the term #DCT was pretty unknown and the concept of decentralized clinical trials was still in its infancy.   10 years ago we launched a multicentre pilot-study in Northern America that evaluated patients' activity-level over 6 months under treatment of their pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Why DCT? Patients were equipped with #Fitbits to measure 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 and in addition patients used tablets to communicate with their physicians and run their ePROs and diaries at home. 🚶♂️⌚ This pilot was designed to monitor patients that lived in rural areas with long commutes to their physicians and next medical sites.   Today we can utilize a massively grown bandwidth of DCT technology that brings new digital endpoints, lowers the threshold for participation thus makes studies accessible to a broader population and increases diversity. Innovation is often born out of necessity and from the foundational belief that “there has to be a better way.” Insulet Corporation's origin story is a great example. We were founded in 2000 by the father of a young child with type 1 diabetes who was searching for a better way to manage his son’s insulin delivery — one that that didn’t include multiple daily injections or a cumbersome tubed insulin pump. He envisioned something more adaptable and wearable. He sketched a tubeless disposable insulin pump on a napkin, and Omnipod® was born.     I recently described the evolution of our innovative, tubeless insulin management system in an article for IEEE PULSE, the magazine of the IEEE Engineering Medicine and Biology Society. The article focuses on our youngest customers and describes the unique design challenges Insulet faced when developing and improving an essential medical device to fit a child’s lifestyle. For the past nine years, I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of a passionate team relentlessly working to improve the lives of people with diabetes, including children and their caregivers. Diplopia is often caused by other issues and conditions in your body and eyes. That’s why it’s so important to get your eyes checked right away when you notice any changes in your vision. Diplopia is the medical term for double vision or seeing double. Diplopia is defined as seeing two images of a single object when you’re looking at it. Double vision is usually a temporary issue, but it can also be a sign of more serious health conditions. Even if it’s caused by something as simple as needing new glasses, it’s important to get your eyes examined by your healthcare provider right away if you start seeing double. Your healthcare provider will classify your double vision as either monocular (one eye) or binocular (both eyes). Monocular diplopia is present when you use only one eye at a time. It may appear as a shadow. Binocular diplopia is present when both eyes are open at the same time. It goes away if you cover one of your eyes. Monocular diplopia is more common and usually less serious. Binocular diplopia is usually caused by your eyes being out of alignment or other, more serious underlying conditions.
