Bureau of Land Management Decision Will Prevent Proposed Ambler Road in Alaska’s Brooks Range In late June, the Bureau of Land Management issued its Record of Decision halting plans for the Ambler Industrial Road in Alaska’s Brooks Range. Jen Leahy, Alaska senior program manager for the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, praised the decision: "Today’s outcome is a win for local residents, Alaska Native Tribes, and over 14,000 conservation-minded hunters and anglers nationwide who advocated for preserving the enduring wild character of the Brooks Range. We commend the BLM for prioritizing these public lands for hunters and anglers, and for grounding this crucial decision in sound science and extensive public involvement." This decision follows the BLM's final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement released on April 19, which endorsed the "No Action" alternative, signaling the agency's intent to block the proposed industrial corridor. Coming together to protect these wetlands that we have very few of now would be in our best interest as a species.
“Of the nation’s many controversial mines, few are more vilified, politically embattled or consequential than the one proposed by Twin Pines Minerals, an Alabama company whose property abuts Okefenokee. By lowering the water table of Okefenokee, mining could transform the refuge to a dried-out shell of its former self, forever damaging the country’s largest blackwater wetland.” Read our latest blog on looming threats the Okefenokee faces and how you can help with your voice: https://dfnd.us/4cKoQO7

For more than half a century, millions of acres of land in Alaska have been protected from mining, drilling, and other industrial activities. These wild landscapes are good for the planet: They sequester carbon from the atmosphere and sustain an abundance of animals. But 28 million acres are now in danger of being mined, drilled and developed. Join us in telling the BLM to maintain protections for these pristine, climate-saving landscapes 👉 https://biodiv.us/3ODpWkm

Truly hope that this experimental mining scheme will be shut down. Knowing what we now know, it’s a wholly irresponsible plan that will cause irreparable damage. With aggressive recycling and adaptive reuse we can reduce mining on all fronts
Tomorrow is the deadline for opposing an experimental dragline mining operation on the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp and St. Marys River. A heartfelt thank you to Leonardo DiCaprio and NBC News for showcasing the delicate balance of this unique ecosystem, emphasizing the critical role of water levels, and helping raise awareness of why we need to #SavetheSwamp and #ProtectOurStMarysRiver. St. Marys Riverkeeper urges Georgia EPD to deny permits to mine on Trail Ridge adjacent to the St. Marys River and Okefenokee Swamp. The St. Marys River and its headwaters, the Okefenokee Swamp, are too important to risk with untested mining methods from a company that does not have experience in greenfield mining and has a negative track record of environmental stewardship. Yesterday, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released the most significant change in the management of BLM lands in 50 years with the final Public Lands Rule which puts conservation on equal ground with other uses like mining and energy development. So, what does that mean for Greater Yellowstone? Find out in our blog. https://lnkd.in/gFPt2YVd

#sandrefilling #dredgingsandfromsea #riversandminingdredger #sanddredgingpumpboat #Congodredging #congo Beach nourishment, or beach filling, is the practice of adding large quantities of sand or sediment to beaches to combat erosion and increase beach width. Often referred to as a “soft armoring” technique, it is sometimes viewed as a superior alternative to hard armoring because it avoids some of the major pitfalls associated with hard structures like seawalls. With sea level rise and storms threatening to erode sandy beaches, it is likely that nourishment will become more prevalent as managers seek to protect valuable coastal property. https://lnkd.in/giPC4UQV

🌱 We applaud Secretary Haaland’s announcement of an Interagency National #NativeSeed Center during the National Native Seed Conference. The establishment of an interagency center was a key recommendation offered by the National Academy of Sciences in a recent report that highlighted the severity of the national native seed shortage and its implications for healthy lands and waters. 🐝 #NativePlants support native #wildlife and #pollinators. The BLM and other federal agencies need millions of pounds of native seed every year and are only able to acquire a fraction of that. An interagency seed and restoration center and continued investment in the National Seed Strategy will help address this major challenge and need. Check out our factsheet to learn about the challenges that federal agencies currently face in acquiring native seeds.

Seems every country has lost its moral & ethical duties/responsibilities. We are already witnessing #climatechange effects e.g. extreme weather events, #flood , #heatwaves , #ElNiño #cyclones etc. But #Norway govt. approved 1st commercial #deepseamining project. It will lead a significant threat to the #seabed & #marine #ecosystem.
