The Osage Nation Government 2023 audit report is clean, with zero significant deficiencies or material weaknesses. An independent audit report shows top-tier accountability and oversight by the Osage Nation Government. A “clean” opinion is a report that an auditor issues when they find that financial statements are fairly presented and by generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). It indicates that the auditor found no material misstatements during the audit and that the entity followed the applicable financial reporting framework. “Once again, the Osage Nation has received an outstanding audit report showing strong oversight by the Osage Nation Treasury, Procurement, Accounting, and Grants Departments,“ said Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear. “We are grateful to our Osage Nation employees for this massive accomplishment, which speaks to their hard work and dedication.” You can click below to find out more. https://lnkd.in/gC9q_pjQ

#IntheNews | Osage Nation gets approval for the largest fee-to-trust application in Oklahoma “This is your land, and your children's land, and your grandchildren's land,” Standing Bear said, in a message to other Osage citizens. “And there are no loans on it, and there's no mortgage on it, and that is not going to happen. We're not giving this land up again. We were pushed into that before, but we want to acquire more, and we want to do this again. But land is very expensive.” https://lnkd.in/guMFByw7

SELF-GOVERNANCE | On March 11, 2024, the Osage Nation filed a lawsuit against the United States Department of the Interior (DOI) in response to extensive negotiation delays that interfere with and threaten the Nation’s right to self-governance under the 1975 Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (ISDEAA), P.L. 93-638. That Act provided Indian tribes the legal authority to contract with the Federal government to operate programs serving their tribal members and other eligible persons. https://lnkd.in/gnhfN4mR #selfgovernance #osagenation #sovereignty

Osage Nation proudly announces the completion of the first-ever Osage Nation Census, a historic accomplishment. In 2022, the Osage Nation Congress enacted a law stating that the Osage Nation shall conduct a census every five years. Shortly after, the census was deployed from June 1 to July 31, 2023. The Osage Nation received 3,922 census responses. The data collected is instrumental in better assessing the needs of Osage Nation Tribal Members for strategic planning. "We are committed to using all tools available to distill the needs of our Osage people and then respond accordingly," said Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear. "This information is critical to making sound and informed programmatic decisions. We are grateful to all who participated and our team members who worked diligently to gather this information." Osage Nation's Office of Strategic Planning conducted the census, which is now available for download at https://lnkd.in/guHYQFQn. Physical copies are being distributed to key policymakers throughout the Osage Nation's Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Branches. #WahzhazheAlways

SPOTLIGHT ON SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM | Jimmie Hamilton pauses for a quick smile during his Osage Nation Summer Youth Employment job at Miears Tire Shop. Located in Hominy, Miears Tire Shop is one of many businesses hosting Osage summer youth workers who receive on-the-job training to support their professional development. Hamilton graduated from Hominy High School in 2023 and went on to complete certification in Electrical Trades at Central Tech in Drumright. This is Hamilton’s second time participating in the Osage Nation Summer Youth Employment. “This program gave me direction in my career training related to electrical trades,” says Hamilton. “My certification will help get me closer to becoming a professional journeyman.” The Osage Nation Summer Youth Employment Program helps Native American youth ages 16 to 21 gain work experience and become more marketable in different fields. The program benefits both the young individuals and the businesses they work with, promoting economic and social development. Participants are paid through the Financial Assistance Department.
