Lately, I’ve heard many leaders brushing off inclusion initiatives as part of the “Woke agenda”, but let's shatter those stereotypes and explore the essence of DEI – it's all about fostering respect, understanding, and equal opportunities for everyone. Think about it: DEI sparks culture shifts, boosts employee retention, and attracts a diverse talent pool and customer base. By reframing our understanding of DEI, we can unlock its true potential to drive organizational success and societal progress. Today, I challenge you to break free from the confines of "wokeness" and instead focus on the tangible impact that genuine DEI efforts can bring.

Are your Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives falling flat? Try taking a closer look at: 🔍Leadership buy-in, or lack of it! Without genuine commitment from those at the top, DEI efforts are already off to a false start 🔍Tokenism. Hiring a few diverse employees into the business to tick the 'diversity box' isn't the right thing to do 🔍Unconscious bias in hiring and when giving internal promotions. Recognise it, address it and squash it 🔍Surface level diversity. It's SO important to see the huge value in intersecting identities and not just the diversity that you can physically see What have I missed? #diversityintheworkplace

Challenging CEOs to Elevate to New Heights in Business Vistage Helps CEOs Make Better Decisions by Bringing Leaders Together Confidentiality | World’s Leading CEO Organization | Executive Coach, Leadership Development
What's in a name/label, and how do we evolve said name to meet today's changing and challenging workforce? Understanding the essence of change is key. This article from The Washington Post (link is in comments 👇) underscores the shift in DEI and affirmative action, challenging us to rethink how we approach diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The article highlights that we are moving the emphasis from diversity to inclusion. I had to ask myself "Is this the 'New Coke'"? Johnny C. Taylor of SHRM says, "We underestimated that inclusion was the real challenge. Now people are saying, ‘Not only should we probably call it something different, we should probably evolve it.’” So, henceforth DEI is now branded IDE. Perhaps he is on to something, and may it outlive "New Coke". In short, let's continue to evolve our practices to ensure fairness and opportunity for all by creating environments where everyone can thrive. I would love to hear your thoughts on this evolution. #IDE #DEI #Leadership #Diversity #Inclusion #Belonging #workplace Vistage Worldwide, Inc. Michelle Riddell Mandy Price Kanarys™

Helping Passionate HR Leaders Run DEI Programs that Actually Work 💥 1/2 Employee Relations Cases 💥 Work-Life Integration 💥4-Day Work Weeks 💥 12-Week Transformation
Would your organisation be better off if its leaders would just get on board with DEI? Yes, right? But.... Every day you find yourself acting as a human shield protection your staff from their racism and misogyny, and you see how much the company is investing in DEI. Every year, in the US alone, companies spend over $8 billion in DEI programs, yet everyone is frustrated by their rate of return. The real secret to organisational transformation where all employees (yourself included) can perform to the best of their capabilities lies not in expensive change programs. That's where I come in. I've taught multinational companies how to implement DEI practices that create more inclusive environments where employees can thrive. In honor of Juneteenth, let's reflect on the state of DEI efforts at work. Culture Amp's surveys from nearly 400 companies reveal a dip in workplace inclusion efforts. In 2021, 85% of employees felt their company was building a diverse and inclusive culture; by 2023, that number dropped to 77%. HR professionals cite a lack of leadership, DEI expertise, and insufficient data as major hurdles. Additionally, fewer companies are investing in external resources to support DEI initiatives. As President of The Grady Group, my conversations with HR leaders and job seekers provide insight into these trends. But I’d like to hear from you too. Have you assessed DEI efforts at your company recently?

Helping Passionate HR Leaders Run DEI Programs that Actually Work 💥 1/2 Employee Relations Cases 💥 Work-Life Integration 💥4-Day Work Weeks 💥 12-Week Transformation
It's been just over a month since I launched my latest book: The Inclusion Illusion: An HR Guide to Educating Execs on DEI and I'm blown away by the response I'm getting. Here's what people who I really trust have said: “For many people working in the DEI space, it isn't just a job, it's a calling. They run high on purpose and passion but when their efforts are ineffective, they feel completely deflated. Katherine has a refreshing vision that inspires a broader appreciation of DEI (and it’s not what you might think). Reading this book gives people the tools to be more impactful with less effort in their DEI initiatives.” Wai Cheung - Life Purpose 'Inner Game' Specialist Creator of The Reaction Code "This book will help DEI practitioners build greater consensus and resources behind their activities. It will help employee resource group leaders understand the complex landscape in which they are trying to make a difference and bigger impact. The Inclusion Illusion serves a wider variety of DEI stakeholders in their quest for the ultimate inclusive workplace.” Pinky Ghadiali Multi Award-Winning Transformational Leader, Founder and CEO at Netwomen™️ If you've got any of these challenges this book may be for you: ✅ Senior leaders don't "get it" ✅ The DEI strategy has landed on deaf ears ✅ No one is taking responsibility for or doing anything on the DEI plans ✅ Employees don't care about the company DEI priorities, they just want to focus on what's interesting to them ✅ No matter how much anyone does on DEI, employees still complain it's not enough ✅ There is a disconnect between the corporate message and the reality "on the ground." ✅ Line managers think DEI doesn't relate to them (it's someone else's problem/responsibility) Let's break through the inclusion illusion together and transform our workplaces into healthy, happy, inclusive spaces where everyone thrives. I recently got the opportunity to work on a DEI initiative for my organization. Before diving in, I viewed it as just another industry trend. However, as I delved deeper, I realized the critical importance of DEI practices. Implementing DEI not only helps build the right organizational culture but also leverages the diverse backgrounds and cultures of its people, bringing invaluable knowledge and perspectives. According to me, DEI is not just a moral imperative but also a business imperative. The benefits of embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion are far-reaching, from enhanced innovation and expanded market reach to improved talent acquisition and risk mitigation. By prioritizing DEI, organizations position themselves for long-term success in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world. It’s time for businesses to recognize the transformative power of DEI and take proactive steps to create inclusive workplaces that drive innovation, foster growth, and make a positive impact on society as a whole. #DEI #people #culture

March's topic: Diversity & Inclusion ******* 6. Empathy as the key to understanding When we truly immerse ourselves in the feelings and perspectives of others, we start to appreciate the rich diversity of human experience. It’s like opening a door to a world we didn't know existed, revealing stories and struggles, hopes and dreams that differ from our own, yet resonate on a deeply human level. By encouraging empathy in our workplaces, dear Green Heart Warriors, we’re not just saying “I see you” but “I value your unique journey.” This acknowledgment can break down barriers and create a culture where everyone feels they belong. When people feel understood and valued for their differences, it naturally cultivates an environment rich in diversity and inclusion.
