This week, I had the honor of participating in a dialogue on competitiveness and growth with Nordic heads of government and representatives from each country’s business sector.    The Nordic region is recognized for its open democratic societies, long tradition of innovation, and business-friendly environment. The region has also been paving the way in the clean-energy sector, with more than half of primary energy usage already sourced from renewables, creating a noteworthy competitive advantage in sustainability.   The strength of the Nordic life-sciences industry is also remarkable, and being a part of it has certainly also contributed to our successful development as a company.    However, European competitiveness is challenged and the Nordics have an important voice in guiding region in the right direction. Vietnam's DPPA program is back in the spotlight and, hopefully, close to fruition following a recent flurry of activity between the MOIT and government office. A number of the program's design features have changed recently, including by the addition of a private wire option. These slides illustrate the program's current incarnation and provide a snapshot of the path travelled to get to this point. At the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition last week I was privileged to moderate a panel on DPPA. The panelists represented renewable energy buyers, sellers, financiers and policy advocates. The overarching message was that corporates want and need to procure renewable energy directly. Inability to do this is a direct threat to making new investment in Vietnam for many companies with clean energy commitments or mandates. The DPPA is an opportunity for Vietnam to enable this and showcase its credentials as a destination for sustainable investment.

I attended the Women in Energy event hosted by A&L Goodbody LLP in the Merrion Hotel this morning. A lovely way to start a Wednesday networking with women from across the energy industry. Very interesting insights from Caoimhe Giblin Electroroute, Mary Lynch FuturEnergyIreland and Patricia Roche AIB. I was especially tuned into Patricia's insights into investing in the Irish market from a Financial Institutions perspective. She discussed how curtailment and constraints are just not as prevalent in other European countries. Something we hear from our international clients too - how can you accurately forecast revenues when constraints/curtailment levels are hard to quantify. There was also an interesting discussion around curtailment compensation within RESS as well. How much will it cost the consumer and whether it is disincentivising developers from looking at ways to utilise excess renewables before they are dispatched down? We previously carried out analysis with Wind Energy Ireland looking at how you can potentially reduce bid prices within RESS by compensating for curtailment and constraints ultimately removing the risk of dispatch down from a RESS participants bid price therefore reducing the overall cost to consumer of the RESS payment through the PSO levy. There is an optimal way to design these schemes to ensure value for money for the end consumer as well as achieving our Climate Action Plan goals. Cornwall Insight Ireland

📣 COALition is a project that aims to create a joint strategy for sustainable energy among three selected territories in under-transition EU states (Western Macedonia - GR, Centru - RO, Southeastern - BG) that are also characterized as widening.  🔎 The project seeks to create regional excellence hubs that will co-define the regions' joint priorities and action plan to facilitate their transitions, following a bottom-up, multi-stakeholder participatory approach.  🔎 The project also aims to establish permanent Regional Excellence Hubs in the three selected territories that are coal-dependent and also belong to countries that are characterized as less advanced in terms of R&I performance.
