HSE |NEBOSH IGC1,2,3| OSHA 48 & 30 Hours | IOSH Certified | Jeddah Municipility Approved HSE officer| Master in Biological Sciences| Diploma in HSE Engineering | at Issam Kahbani
Apart from lack of HSE procedures & requirements one thing which seems very obvious & apparent is lack of Generel Safety for them & for materals around them. It begining of the lifting everything to them would have been seemed normal & easy. However, how major & visible factor (keeping vechile under suspended load) they missed to realize. It is lesson for the Emoloyers who consider HSE professionels at site as burden & obstruction in excution of various civil works.
Remember these key points prior any lifting operation. · Inspection of lifting equipment and accessories. · Competent supervision · Training and Certifications. · Secured lifting zones, stay alert and aware of your surroundings. · Procedure compliance and follow posted safety instructions. · Operator, rigger, and supervisor competency. · Report unsafe acts/conditions. Stay safe, stay cautious.

Vertical Transportation Manager @ SHAPOORJI PALLONJI MIDEAST | Electrical Engineering | Elevators, Escalators, Water Features, BMU, Turnstile, Smoke Curtains, Gate Barrier, Irrigation, Tower Crane
Unloading escalator materials from a closed container is a challenging task, and it requires proper planning and resources. The experienced team, sufficient unloading laydown area, suitable equipment and lifting accessories with valid third-party inspection certificates are some of the critical prerequisites. Moreover, having an access route for shifting and a storage area is essential. But the most important item is experienced rigging activities during the unloading. Proper communication among the team, rigger, flagman, and operator plays a crucial role in ensuring safe execution. Convincing the HSE engineer for a safe unloading is also a great job. #safetyfirst #escalators #unloading #rigging #teamwork

The crew on cargo ships holds different positions such as Able Seaman, Ordinary Seaman, Bosun, Deckhand, Oiler, and Wiper, each with specific duties. Able Seamen are responsible for maintenance, standing watch, and handling cargo operations. Ordinary Seamen assist with cleaning, maintenance, and basic operations. Bosuns supervise the deck crew, ensuring the upkeep of the ship's hull and equipment. Deckhands perform general maintenance and assist in docking and cargo operations. Oilers work in the engine room, maintaining machinery and systems, while Wipers clean and maintain engine spaces and equipment. Working on cargo ships is physically demanding, involving long hours, irregular shifts, and sometimes extreme weather conditions. The job can be hazardous, requiring constant vigilance and adherence to safety procedures. Communication with loved ones can be challenging due to limited connectivity at sea, and seafarers often spend extended periods away from home. Despite these challenges, there are opportunities for career advancement, with the potential to move up to higher ranks with experience and additional training. Let’s talk about it To all the HRs and Crew managers out there in shipping industry, LNG ships these days and for upcoming years would be the hot seat to get into. Majority of the navigating officers and engineers want to shift towards because of obvious reasons so to say salary and benefits. However companies these days prefer experienced candidates for manning their vessel for the safe operation and not risking up by rookies. You go to a company or send a CV to crewing department or an HR, if there’s no experience on the same type of vessel, you don’t get a contract. This whole process of hiring is a big fuss at least for the young seafarers. The one who haven’t even been to sea are rejecting the CV’s on the basis of experience rather than the knowledge and will to do the job of the candidate. Truth is no matter how much experience you have, every ship has their own technicalities which are learnt and performed well by the hands on ship for the day to day safe operation, however fundamental principles are same and knowledge is a big part of it. If you really want to choose your candidate, test them by their knowledge . Ask them about their job and the good practices they contributed towards in their previous ships. We have a good system of hierarchy and I think it’s sufficient enough to ensure the safe operation. Also the psychometric test are just an excuse on paper same like the CV’s,never really been cared about and extremely objective. If you can give your 10mins of your interview to the candidates, you might be getting the nerve of them and that’s how you test the personality. I strongly believe that if regulations don’t have any boundaries for our licence(COC-unlimited (FG)),why one has to be rounded up by any company or an organisation. This could be a good practice for a company to accommodate skilled and professional seafarers, and the best way to put up a good culture within. Also you won’t get a chance to complain about retention rates in your company.

Marine Officer | MBA Graduate | Nautical Science Expert | Enhancing Maritime Efficiency & Strategy | Navigating Excellence with Business Acumen
Able Seaman: Essential Skills for Deck Operations The role of an Able Seaman (AB) is fundamental to the smooth and efficient operation of a ship's deck. Able Seamen are versatile and skilled members of the deck crew, responsible for a wide range of tasks that ensure the vessel's safety and operational readiness. My experience in the maritime industry has shown me how crucial the role of an AB is and the essential skills required to excel in this position. An Able Seaman's duties are diverse and demanding, requiring a strong foundation in seamanship. This includes tasks such as mooring and anchoring, handling cargo, operating deck machinery, and performing routine maintenance. ABs must be proficient in knot tying, splicing, and rigging, as these skills are vital for securing the ship and its cargo. During my time at sea, I have witnessed the expertise and efficiency of ABs as they deftly handle lines and equipment, ensuring that operations proceed smoothly and safely. One of the key responsibilities of an AB is watchkeeping. This involves maintaining a vigilant lookout for other vessels, navigational hazards, and any signs of distress or emergencies. ABs must have sharp observational skills and a keen sense of situational awareness to detect and respond to potential dangers. I have seen how the watchkeeping duties of ABs are integral to preventing collisions and ensuring the safe navigation of the vessel. Safety is a paramount concern in maritime operations, and ABs play a crucial role in upholding safety standards on board. They are trained in firefighting, first aid, and emergency response procedures, enabling them to act swiftly and effectively in crises. The ability to remain calm and composed under pressure is essential for an AB, as their actions can significantly impact the outcome of emergency situations. My experiences at sea have underscored the importance of these skills, as I have observed ABs responding to emergencies with professionalism and competence. The maritime industry is continually evolving, and so are the expectations for Able Seamen. Modern ABs are expected to be proficient with advanced technologies and systems, such as electronic navigation aids and communication equipment. One emerging trend in the maritime industry is the increasing emphasis on environmental sustainability. ABs are now more involved in implementing and adhering to environmental protection measures, such as waste management and pollution prevention. Reflecting on my experiences, the role of an Able Seaman is both challenging and rewarding. Their expertise and dedication are essential for the efficient and safe operation of a vessel. To employers seeking skilled maritime professionals, my background in nautical science and practical experience working with deck crews position me well to understand and support your needs. Let’s connect. #Able_Seaman #AB #deck_crew #Saleh_Bayagoob
