The latest update is possible, and its positive.
Some actually suggested, we dredge an entirely new main shipping channel to 50 ft, as it would still be quicker than clearing the existing channel. Yes that was suggested.
I have tried to keep up with the myriad of opinions from those not on the scene, and not directly involved, and yet all appear to speak with the authority of a bystander.
I believe if you can dream it, you can do it.
It appears that all those directly involved share that trait, starting with Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
What so many not in the know missed, which has been a lot, but let’s start with the former Bethlehem Steel property, now Tradepoint, which is comprised of 3,300 acres, on the Chesapeake Bay side of the Key Bridge, with deep water berths, and is located almost adjacent to the fallen bridge. This option was known locally and is a very viable short term solution for the RoRo Carriers.
Also of importance is that it can be used as a first point of rest for all the debris from the bridge.
Obviously this option has to be put in place, but it’s there. And all the opinions of those not involved will hopefully depart with the outgoing tide.
