  • Yesterday was a great day for the Port of Baltimore! We welcomed President Joe Biden and Gov. Wes Moore to our Dundalk Marine Terminal to announce that we’re receiving over $147 million through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Ports Program to continue our efforts to decarbonize and electrify our marine terminals. The grant will help the Maryland Port Administration and our partners Wallenius Wilhelmsen, SSA Marine, Ports America Chesapeake, Capital Logistics, LLC, C. Steinweg Group, and CALSTART acquire 213 zero-emission vehicles and equipment and install new charging infrastructure, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent from 2020 levels. As importantly, it will directly benefit our adjacent disadvantaged and underserved communities. One of the highlights from yesterday’s event was having Gwen Williamson, a grandmother and the first female gantry crane operator and proud INTERNATIONAL LONGSHOREMENS ASSOC member, introduce President Biden. Gwen was the perfect choice to introduce the President and she did a great job!

  • Double stack rail is here! Gov. Wes Moore announced the launch of double stacked rail operations to and from the Port of Baltimore today. Part of CSX’s Howard Street Tunnel Project, this is critical in making Maryland more competitive; opening new opportunities for intermodal rail service in the Northeast and from the Port of Baltimore to Midwest markets; generating thousands of new jobs; and delivering critical benefits to the region months earlier than expected. Double-stacking will help the Port grow its business by about 160,000 containers annually and will create 13,000 new jobs in construction and in operations. It will also complement the expansion of the Seagirt Marine Terminal. “This is a great day for the Port of Baltimore and a great day for Maryland,” said Gov. Moore. “As the Port of Baltimore continues to grow, this transformational project will help increase business activity and create thousands of new jobs. In partnership, we are creating new pathways to work, wages, and wealth for all. We are so excited for this significant milestone! Ports America

Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld and other MDOT officials visited 8 jurisdictions this week to discuss the department’s $18.9 billion, six-year capital budget. Meetings were held in Baltimore City, and Baltimore, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Harford counties. The budget makes investments that support Maryland’s families while being fiscally responsible. We visited all 23 counties and Baltimore City this fall. MDOT will now finalize the budget and submit it to the legislature in January for consideration during the 2025 General Assembly session. • Exciting news for the Port of Baltimore! Gov. Wes Moore, Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld and our Maryland congressional team announced a $31 million U.S. Department of Transportation grant to strengthen and upgrade Dundalk Terminal's Berth 11. The Port of Baltimore handles more heavy machinery than any other U.S. port and this will help position us for continued growth. The grant includes replacing 597 feet of the wharf deck and updating key infrastructure like drainage, utilities, mooring equipment, and flood barriers. As the third-largest port on the East Coast and ninth nationwide, these upgrades will help strengthen both our local and national economies.
