Nearly 50% of the average UK shopping basket includes purchases of Ultra Processed Food (it's only 11% in Italy) according to current data, which suggests that the UK diet is moving away from a healthy diet and is heavily influenced by these foods. While personalised nutritional therapy, education and coaching can support healthy food choices for future health, we are all somewhat at the mercy of the major supermarkets, their unrivalled marketing budgets, and government guidelines to industry. So reports like this one reported by the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine is both concerning and depressing. Norbert is an expert in fortification of dairy products, dairy alternatives, and meal replacements, while Anike specializes in micronutrient premixes for food supplements, instant products and beverages, meat and sausage products, as well as meat and fish alternatives. 👨🏻🔬 In these training sessions, our team delves into the 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘀, gaining valuable 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. In the headlines....'Money changes minds' with new report from the British Medical Journal BMJ revealing that 'more than half of the experts on the UK government’s advisory panel on nutrition have links to the food industry'. The report states that 'At least 11 of the 17 members of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) have conflicts of interest with the likes of Nestlé, sugar manufacturer Tate and Lyle, and the world’s largest ice cream producer, Unilever' which undermines public health. I've nothing against people taking Ozempic to kickstart their weight loss, although I wouldn't recommend it as a long-term solution (I'll share more on why in my next post). But when I see Nestle producing a meal range specifically targeting people on Ozempic to counter nutritional deficiencies they may experience while taking a GLP-1, I feel my blood pressure rise. Now we're: 🍕 Filling our supermarkets with ultra-processed foods, then acting puzzled as people get sicker and obese 💉 Promoting a 'miracle injection' as a 'cure' for obesity and its accompanying tsunami of chronic conditions - a treatment that leads to a whole host of new health issues 🤒 Then marketing more ultra-processed foods to counteract the nutritional deficiencies the miracle injection causes If only as much energy and investment were committed to whole-food, low-carb dietary approaches, we wouldn't be in this dreadful and sad cycle. https://lnkd.in/g9dWH3M3 #type2diabetes #upf #ozempic #nestle #bigfood #bigpharma #insulinresistance

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has evaluated the novel food status of the cell wall component of 𝑆𝑎𝑐𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑚𝑦𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑎𝑒 following an application submitted under Article 4 of Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. This ingredient is a polysaccharide-rich fraction derived from the yeast 𝑆𝑎𝑐𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑚𝑦𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑎𝑒, specifically its cell wall, and is available in powder form. Given that 𝑆. 𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑎𝑒 has a long history of safe use in Europe, and the manufacturing process does not introduce significant changes to the composition, structure, nutritional properties, metabolism, or levels of undesirable substances in the food, AESAN has determined that this ingredient is not considered novel as a food ingredient.
