AAPI Community Breaking Stereotypes 💪 Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) are a vibrant and diverse community, contributing to the rich cultural mosaic of America. They hail from a vast region that spans from the bustling cities of East Asia to the serene islands of the Pacific. This group is breaking stereotypes and forging new paths in various sectors: Chloe Zhao has made her mark in Hollywood, becoming the first woman of color to win an Oscar for Best Director for her movie Nomadland, highlighting her unique storytelling perspective. Prabal Gurung brings a fresh voice to the fashion industry, infusing his Nepalese heritage into modern designs that challenge traditional norms. Jeremy Lin has left an indelible mark on sports, transcending the basketball court to address issues of racism and representation. The AAPI community’s journey is one of perseverance, innovation, and celebration. From Chloe Zhao’s cinematic triumphs to Prabal Gurung’s fashion revolutions, and Jeremy Lin’s advocacy in sports, they have all paved the way for a future where diversity is not just accepted but embraced and honored. Their stories are not mere chapters in history but ongoing narratives that inspire and challenge us. They remind us that the American dream is a tapestry woven from threads of many cultures, each strand strengthening and enriching the whole. As the AAPI community continues to grow and thrive, their contributions will undoubtedly shape the fabric of American society for the better, ensuring that the nation’s future is as vibrant and dynamic as the community itself. Their legacy is a beacon of hope, a testament to the power of unity in diversity, and a celebration of the human spirit’s boundless potential. 🌅 Wen Stenger 🏳️🌈 Balaji Thiagarajan TechDigital #AAPIExcellence #AAPIHM #AsianAmericanPacificIslandersHeritageMonth #AAPI #DiversityInAction #Trailblazers #UnityInDiversity #Inspiration #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion

I just want to take a moment to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month and highlight how proud I am to be a part of this community. As we continue the conversation to stop AAPI hate, I also want to acknowledge that this struggle has existed long before the 2020 pandemic, and still continues on today. In 1968 Yuji Ichioka & Emma Gee coined the term "Asian-American" as a way to directly oppose the term "Oriental", which is a derogatory way of referring to Asian people before the term Asian-American was created. An "Asian" identity did not exist before this time in the United States, and this was our community's way of uniting to fight for liberation. This movement was highly motivated by the Civil Rights Movement; seeing the way that solidarity provided a louder voice prompted many early Asian activists to do the same. I also would like to point out that while the term Asian-American was meant to unify us to create a bigger voice, there are also long-term side effects of this appellation which come from grouping together an enormous variety of cultures and ethnicities that in some cases, diminishes the struggles of certain communities. The experience of a Chinese-American in the United States, for example, differs exponentially from that of an Indian-American, Pakistani-American, Cambodian-American, Filipino-American, Malaysian-American, Kazakh-American, and so on. This occurrence becomes even more complex and unique with the intersectionality of other identities (such as gender or sexuality) with each individual Asian community. Some Asian-American communities who may experience adversity due to the grouping of the term "Asian-American" are often also victims of the Model Minority myth, and if you are unaware of the dangers of this stereotype I empower you to take a moment this month to research why even the "good" stereotypes are harmful, as it has resulted in certain Asian demographics not getting the support or help they need. The expanse of Asia is so wide, with millions of people, that the needs of each ethnicity can be vastly different, and their experiences are not all the same. So it's important to remember that while we unify to create a bigger voice as a singular pan-ethnic Asian community, we must also make sure to avoid erasure of the individual struggles within each uniquely wonderful Asian identity. Happy AAPI Heritage Month, everyone!

May is Asian American Pacific Islander month! 🌸 This month, as part of our ongoing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives, we are focusing on celebrating, honoring, and recognizing the rich diversity, impact, and contributions of the Asian American Pacific Islander community. At New Engen, we celebrate the mosaic of cultures, perspectives, and experiences that make us stronger as a team and as a company. We recognize the importance of inclusivity and stand together in solidarity with the AAPI community, advocating for equality, representation, and respect. As we celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, we want to spotlight the incredible contributions and achievements of our AAPI employees and continue to work toward ways of supporting them. This month, we’re encouraging our employees to participate in trainings hosted by Right to Be : 🔹 Bystander Intervention to Stop Anti-Asian/American & Xenophobic Harassment 🔹 How to Respond to Harassment & Practice Resilience When People Experience Anti-Asian/American Harassment We’ve also asked our teams to collaborate and share recipes highlighting dishes that reflect the AAPI communities and diaspora. Together, we look forward to creating a recipe book that we can all share with our colleagues, families, and network. 🥘 Lastly, we are proud to share we will be donating funds to Tasveer, a local organization that inspires social change through thought-provoking South Asian films, art, and storytelling.
