What do we all think about award winning buildings that turn out to have significant issues…say for example they have combustible cladding on them.
Should these awards from various industry organisations be pulled? What if the award is a few years old…say within the last 10 years.
One reason I ask is that I have come across this situation a number of times and these awards are front and centre (regardless of the year they were awarded) when the property or apartments in the property are being sold on.
They also still feature prominently on the architects or builders website as examples of their work - to attract new business and showcase their past performance.
Should the industry organisations be informed so they can pull the awards?
Do we think the industry organisations would actually pull the awards if informed?

Underground transport requires a more substantial investment upfront and is normally suitable for larger cities.
The fundamental question for cities like Perth, on the verge of growing population to a critical mass and in need of rethinking their urban development based extensive land exploitation and private transport is:
What kind of city do we want to be?
How much sustainable?
How much liveable?
How much pedestrian friendly?
How much ecologically sound?
How much free from automobile dependence?
More important, how much are we willing to invest now in operations that can set the foundations for such a city?
A question for all the 30 local governments of Perth Metro which compose Perth’s urban mosaic.
And for the State of Western Australia, perhaps.
I always go back to a #infrastructure project I worked on a number of years ago.
The deliverable was drafted to be only #models to 80% and only then would #drawings be delivered with a paperless office.
What happened?
Month or so in, at the design meeting with all teams involved, initial #federatedmodel being demonstrated on the flashy new big screen, with what will be delivered up to 80%.
Then the question from the delivery authority.
This is all great but when will we see the initial preliminary sketches and drawings?
Answer: This is it up till 80%.
Outcome of meeting 80+ drawings and sketches produced over the next few weeks and a coordination room filled with piles of check sets on A3 throughout the design process.
Can we do it of course we can, does the whole lifecycle of the project and everyone involved want us to, or have the capability to carry it out to the end, well that's still a story in writing.
We can say it's being done in other countries, but those countries are not #Australia and it's landscape. Do we have pockets of it, probably, is it common practice I doubt it, only for complex junctions to make sure it all fits.
I'd take a stab and say we still have a long way to go. It also does not help the terms of #BIM their so called roles and definitions are sitting in a cloudy mess, depending on where you get your information, will depend on the answers and outcome you get.
Do your research, tread carefully in this technological world we now live in.
Though it may look like sunshine and rose filled gardens, dig deeper and you will find thorns.
Can We Deliver Our Projects Without Drawings?
I am very excited to be doing a joint presentation along with John Legge-Wilkinson at the BILT ANZ 2024 conference in #Melbourne on 05-07 Sept.
We will be posing the question ...
Can We Deliver Our Projects Without Drawings?
Well ... it turns out that you can!
Scandinavian countries like #Norway have successfully adopted a model-based project delivery approach (without the need for design drawings) on their bridge and infrastructure projects over the past 7+ years.
Come along and hear;
"HOW" this was achieved ...
"WHY" they adopted this approach ...
and the BENEFITS and COST SAVINGS that come from this change in project delivery method.
Hope to see you all there.
