National Health Equity Expert • Health Tech Strategist + Advisor • Keynote Speaker • Entrepreneur • Trailblazer • Reimagining Drug Development
“A wise person speaks because they have something to say, a fool speaks because he has to say something…” -Plato I never take a speaking invitation lightly, and even while participating on panels I’ve learned sometimes it’s better to listen more than to speak. Yesterday I was honored to represent Biogen at PhRMA’s Health Equity symposium on the panel “Think Globally, Act Locally: Assessing Public Policy Solutions to Advance Health Equity” + record a short blurb on what health equity means to me 💜 I have to say—this industry is full of brilliant leaders. I learned just as much from my fellow panelists as the audience did. A few takeaways you might find insightful as well: 🌎 Working with and within communities isn’t synonymous with lower quality standards or outcomes. In fact, it’s the opposite. - Keith Dawson 🌎 Companies are increasingly investing in social impact to build capacity in lower/middle income global countries. This will have generational impact on global health equity - Kalahn Taylor-Clark, PhD, MPH 🌎 Communities globally want to know and understand your intentions. Are you coming to do good, or do harm… - Courtney Christian, MPA 🌎 We need to rethink our framing of global communities. They should be viewed through a lens of asset, not deficit. There’s a lot the US can also learn from them… -Me Many thanks to the leadership of Courtney Christian in organizing such a thought provoking day, and panel. And shoutout to my epic panelists. Grateful to be in the room to listen, and to speak ✨✨✨ #healthcareonlinkedin #pharma #healthcare #publichealth

**Celebrating World Health Day with a Pledge for Universal Health Coverage** Today, on World Health Day, we stand united with the global community in advocating for #MyHealthMyRight. At Roche, we're dedicated to ensuring that health remains a fundamental human right for all. In the Middle East, despite advancements, there's still a long way to go. The UHC service coverage index rose from 45 to 68 between 2000 and 2021, but progress has slowed since 2015. Approximately 4.5 billion people worldwide are not fully covered by essential health services, with the Middle East reflecting this global challenge. In Latin America, the right to health is constitutionally recognized, yet inequities persist. Efforts to increase financial protection and achieve UHC are ongoing, but the region still faces barriers due to income inequality and fragmented health systems. As we observe World Health Day, let's renew our commitment to enhancing healthcare access and the value of diagnostics. #RocheMiddleEast
On World Health Day, Roche reaffirms its commitment to #MyHealthMyRight. We believe that health is a fundamental human right, and we’re striving to enhance healthcare access in underserved communities around the world. Let’s work together to make the world a healthier and more fulfilling place! #Roche #WorldHealthDay

We take a patient-centred approach to all of the work we do at Lumiio, which means designing digital health programs that are optimized and empowering for patients. This is particularly important when working in rare disease spaces, where patients and their families often need to become their own disease experts. Digital health tools and platforms can help foster global communities for people living with rare diseases, offering support, information, and opportunities to help further research. Our CEO Blaine Penny spoke with the Health Innovation Hub about health innovation in Alberta, and the exciting future of digital health tools. Read the article: https://zurl.co/1epO

🌍 Today on World Health Day, we believe that health is a fundamental human right. As a pharmaceutical company, we are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to quality healthcare all across the globe. 💊 It is crucial for billions of individuals worldwide to have the ability to receive proper medical care when needed. It is undeniable that tackling the complex challenges of today’s healthcare landscape requires a deep understanding of the actors involved, and how they interact with one another. But what does this look like in practice? In this new recording from the 2024 Society for International Development, United States (SID-US) Annual Conference, my Chemonics International colleagues joined representatives from USAID/India, Frontier Heath Market (FHM) Engage, Health Systems Consult Limited (HSCL), and Zuri Health to share best practices and lessons learned for implementing a #SystemsThinking approach to #health. Even across different technical sectors, it’s clear that these practical recommendations for effectively engaging local actors hold true. Check out the recording here: https://ow.ly/oCVh30sCtJO

Last week, we shared the APAC findings of the Edelman Trust Barometer Special Report: Trust and Health over breakfast with a roomful of passionate Health practitioners. Our findings show higher Trust and empowerment leads to better personal health outcomes. And to build Trust, the top action respondents want to see from institutions is to be a reliable source of trustworthy health information. Information is now on par with cost and access as a key barrier to taking better care of one's health. We had a lively conversation in the room about the ability to participate in health policy, the timeliness of mobilising information quickly on channels, the role of unbranded platforms, the importance of partnerships with media, advocacy groups and between institutions, as well as the need to deliver complex information simply. This was followed by a virtual launch event for the wider APAC region, with Andrew Wheatley from Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine and Jasper Meyns from AstraZeneca joining us to discuss the findings.
