Today I wanted to share with you my latest instagram post where I look at the question Why massage your baby? 👇 According to a research poll (Harris), only 23% of parents understand that baby massage is extremely important to their child’s brain development, & 14% say it’s not important at all! I'm here to change that! The far-reaching benefits of infant massage are well evidenced & seen by families across the planet! There are benefits for babies, parents, families, & society as a whole! Today, we're looking at babies 👇 💚 Interaction The interaction benefits are largely linked to the promotion of bonding & building secure attachments. The IAIM programme incorporates every main element of bonding through nurturing touch. Babies enjoy quality one to one time, undivided attention, feeling respected, loved, & valued. Through early contact with their parent, babies can imitate, explore verbal & non-verbal communication, & pre-language communication skills. 💚 Relief Relief is a common reason parents choose baby massage, having heard that it can help with many common concerns such as wind, constipation, digestive cramps, reflux, & colic. Massage may also help bring relief for teething discomfort, excess mucus, growing pains, muscular tension, physical and psychological tension as well as disorganisation of the nervous system, sensitivity to touch,and dry skin. 💚 Relaxation Improved sleep patterns, regulation of your baby's awake, sleep & transitional states, being calm & improving their ability to calm themselves. Here are 15 baby/toddler ideas that aren't reality in the Indian market. But, are the manufacturers listening? *Products* 1. Adjustible bed barricades/barriers basis space (not standard or custom-made ones) 2. Extendable mosquito nets as the baby grows up - I have 3 sizes now, thanks brands! 😑 3. Expandable colic bed (slight incline) with barricade 4. Edible nipple butter- wrote about this one earlier :) Because a wailing baby waiteth for no (wo)man or weak memory moms. Ghajni moms is a reality thanks to sleep deprivation! 5. Baby-mouth friendly mittens for winter 6. Summer/humidity friendly nappies - This one is Sushant Bahadur 's brain wave and very much needed for this country! 7. Slight incline and firm feeding pillow- very poor alternates in the market right now 8. Feed, vaccination & medicine tracker- Some do exist eg. FirstCry parenting section but need to be more robust 9. Best price/deals for diapers & wipes tracker- Biggest and recurring pocket burner for parents. This will be welcome! 10. Silicone dropper to avoid latch confusion (instead of bottles, for small feeds 1-2M)- currently most droppers aren't soft, not even the daily Vitamin D. 11. Only-hand colic swaddle- Because how are colicky babies supposed to pass gas with legs tied, avoid startling but minus the legs (of course home-made jugaads available) 12. Anti-leak, light, at home non-bra: No, we aren't worried about shape while sleeping, just soak the damn liquid when I'm too tired to pump and don't stick to my stomach like elastic (my MIL stitched these for me) 13. Mom-diet-friendly store/cheat-without guilt- "collated" marketplace/blog? eg tiramisu w/o alcohol, gond ladoo. No time google plus buy 1 product eg shatavari from 1 store/marketplace is time consuming *Services* 1. Pregnancy meditation & affirmations (also rants? 😅) - Connect/Support group: These exist in small, unorganized forms but having moms in different lifestages ask possibly the same Qs again doesn't help. Sometimes you want "more people in same boat" feels, not a pediatrician or logic. Being mommy is tough 🥲 2. And IMHO the best & biggest need (for parents and planet-friendly but ....kaha hai?) BABY FURNITURE et al SUBSCRIPTION! What do I do with my changing station, baby bed barriers, bath tub, mosquito nets, slings/carriers etc once my baby is older? Do we always have someone to give this to? If not, how do we find them? Of course, I thought about why should I give out these ideas for free :) But I neither have the time/energy or resources to work on these or patent them, as much as I'm keen. So the mom in me won over the individual/professional. So here's to "Ask and you shall receive 2.0" to orgs and entrepreneurs for THE biggest baby market.
