While traveling for work, especially across time zones, it’s important to keep sleep in mind. Based on de-identified, aggregated Oura data, members experience 32.2 minutes less total sleep on days they tag “travel.” Here are a few quick tips to prevent jet lag: • If switching time zones, try to gradually adjust your sleep time prior to traveling, then switch on arrival. • Fit in a walk, jog, or yoga session. Sleep researcher Rebecca Robbins, Ph.D notes, “Exercise can help us stay attuned to the pattern of light and darkness in your environment, thereby making adjustments to time zones easier.” • Feel free to nap that afternoon when you arrive to your destination, Robbins says, but keep it less than 90 minutes in duration.
