Children thrive in consistent environments. Stability helps kiddos feel safe and cared for and enables them to flourish. However, consistency can be a real challenge for students in foster care or those experiencing housing insecurity. Use our blog to help you learn more about federal acts, such as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (MKV), and how they help protect students' basic needs and well-being. You'll also discover how alternative transportation enhances student experiences and provides children and youth with much-needed stability. Incredible wk3 @UofGUpskilling Homelessness: Problems, Perceptions and Policies ✨ I strongly argue that we need to focus not just on Ontological Security in Housing First but also Epistemological Security! 📢 All organisation must be open to deconstructing and re-constructing our knowledge bases about WHY,WHEN AND HOW we support individuals. We must not presume that what we are doing is the best way of doing! That is the starting point if we are to Connect ,Learn and Act via Co-production and Lived Experience.

💬 The Government’s own data, as analysed by Become, shows that 4,300 young care leavers face homelessness – “an increase of 54% in the last five years.” There is nothing inevitable about youth homelessness. We're concerned to see this rise in young care leavers facing homelessness as they transition into their own homes and face a cliff edge in support. Read more from Settle below ⬇️ For more information, head to Become's analysis: https://lnkd.in/eKjGx9tu

"Why Don’t They Just Get a Job?" It's a question many of us have asked when we see someone struggling with homelessness. With "Help Wanted" signs everywhere, it seems like jobs should be easy to find, right? But for people living on the streets, the road to employment is filled with roadblocks: No fixed address for job applications No phone or email to get call-backs No clean clothes or shower access for interviews Gaps in work history and sometimes a criminal record for minor offenses No transportation, no driver’s license, no ID documents And most of all: the stigma of homelessness itself. At Vita Nova Village, we’re committed to removing these barriers, offering real pathways to employment, self-sufficiency, and a livable wage for those who want to work but just need a chance. If you’re passionate about lifting others up and believe in second chances, we need your support. Together, we can provide the tools, resources, and opportunities that are so often out of reach for people experiencing homelessness. Let’s make a difference. Support Vita Nova Village today and be part of the solution. #AffordableHousing #SecondChances #EndHomelessness #LivableWage #SupportVitaNovaVillage www.vitanovavillage.org

We build all kinds of homes. This is one is our smallest, it’s an independent living home for a young adult. It’s part of the Department for Education and Bristol Council’s innovative Staying Close project, that provides supported living housing for young residential care leavers. Co-designed with a cohort of young care leavers, Staying Close is developing pathways to living independently and a choice of supported accommodation options, including on-site, nearby, self-contained or shared for as long as is needed. Why is this needed? There are 2,300 children’s homes in the UK. Each year, over 8,000 children turn 18 & have to leave the homes they have grown up in. Many can become at risk of homelessness & abuse. The Staying Close project helps young adults transition from supported to independent living. Equity in Action: Supporting All Students, No Matter the Circumstances Life is full of unexpected challenges. Sometimes, families face situations that leave them displaced from their permanent homes. For students, this kind of instability can create significant barriers to learning and growth. At Chester Upland School District, we are committed to ensuring that every student, no matter their situation, has access to the resources and support they need to thrive. As the Director of Equitable Learning and Support, I am proud of our district’s unwavering dedication to equity and inclusion. With the help of our phenomenal media team and T3 Media, we’ve created a powerful video that showcases our commitment to serving students experiencing homelessness. Did you know? • Over 1.1 million students in the United States experience homelessness annually. • Students without stable housing face unique challenges, such as higher rates of absenteeism, academic struggles, and emotional distress. • The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have the right to a free and appropriate public education. This federal law mandates that schools: • Identify and support students experiencing homelessness. • Provide transportation to maintain school stability. • Ensure immediate enrollment even without traditional documentation. At Chester Upland School District, we embrace our role as a lifeline for families in transition. Whether it’s connecting them to housing resources, providing access to technology, or ensuring students receive meals, we are here to help. We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their circumstances. Equity means meeting students where they are and lifting them up with the support they need. Please take a moment to watch this video and see how we’re making a difference for our students and families. Together, we can continue to create a community where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. #EquityInEducation #InclusionMatters #McKinneyVento #ChesterUplandProud https://lnkd.in/eXu_DDCN
