Hi! I’m PC Prisca Pook, a Video Journalist (Documentary) Intern from the OGS Video Team! My most memorable experience in OGS would be the POSB Support Your Heartlands shoots. During these shoots, I had the opportunity to meet people who work in small local businesses, such as a minimart shop owner and a hawker egg seller. When they shared about their life stories, I gained a deeper appreciation for the people whose stories that we often overlook. It has shed a spotlight on the lives of small shop owners in Singapore and the importance of supporting local businesses. I found it especially heartwarming when the profiles mentioned that they enjoyed the videos and thanked me for supporting their businesses. Coming off a week of being OOO! I didn’t do anything particularly special. To be honest, I was feeling a bit tired—maybe even a little burnt out. So, I took my own managerial advice and booked some time off to hang out at home and reset my routine. I also celebrated a birthday! If you’re a fall baby like me (shoutout to my fellow Libras 👋), maybe you think of fall as a reset, too. While enjoying a staycation at home, I took some time to reflect. Here are a few things I’ve been thinking about: • Working in comms/marketing for ten years! • Celebrating 5 years at Brandish | A Creative Agency marking my transition from non-profit comms to #AgencyLife. • How much my first comms job taught me about people. • How fun it is to see my peers grow in their careers. • Is the art of the commercial coming back?! And hopefully more thoughts I can flesh out in future posts. Stay tuned!
Weeks 41 & 42 at Brandish! October has been a busy month, and we're only halfway through. Our Creative and Strategy teams have been heads-down with client work, the Comms team is full steam ahead with Re:union planning and our Partners are organizing an upcoming agency activity (get excited for Week 44 of the vlog!). Intellectual stimulation (and income generation) while unemployed part II – make your own job! 😎 But first, a story: For those of you who know Toronto and nightlife in the city, information online about where to go for a night out is wildly outdated, directing consumers to bars and nightclubs that, no longer exist or are overpriced and filled largely with unfriendly consumers. This leads tourists to have consistently negative experiences with Toronto nightlife. For those that know the city, there are incredible nightlife spots to go to but most consumers (including me) often learn about them primarily through word of mouth. One of the highlights of most major cities in the world for consumers looking to enjoy nightlife is their pub crawls (aka bar tours, bar crawls or bar-hopping). This gives consumers the opportunity to visit several local hot spots in one night, meet other people in a fun, relaxed atmosphere and go to bars and nightclubs for reduced prices. For whatever reason this didn’t exist in Toronto. So in an effort to: 1. Improve consumers’ perceptions of Toronto nightlife/help them make better nightlife choices 2. Bring the fun of pub crawls of cities like Amsterdam, London, Berlin and Prague to Toronto I launched pubcrawltoronto.com this past September! Fun yes, but also helps keep my marketing brain sharp: -Built and have been managing relationships with influencers to attend and promote the pub crawl on Instagram and Tik Tok -Been keeping up with SEO and SEM best practices to get the crawls discoverable on as many websites as possible -Taught myself how to make a website on Wordpress! All of this has led to over $10k in ticket sales in less than 6 months! 🤯 Definitely not enough to live off of but money’s money! So if you’re looking for a fun night out in Toronto (or your kids for those with gen-z/millennial adult children in my network) or want to associate your brand with fun nights out in Toronto, you know what to do! Flashback to a decade ago: Impact Cleaning Services had just celebrated 60 years of service. That same year we decided enter the sports and entertainment sector. At 60 years old, we were rookies again! But that didn't scare us. We were already experts in cleaning. We just had to learn to navigate this new world of event venues. But, we had to learn quickly. Customers don't care how, they care how fast. So when we got the call, our entire management/ownership team jumped in. We all rolled up our sleeves and go into the weeds. We didn't delegate, we dug in. As a result, we quickly figured this new world out. Once we learned the ropes, we figured out how to optimize and improve. Fast forward to today: Arena Presentation (Cleanliness) consistently ranks #1 on the fan post game survey. Moral of the story: It's ok to fake it till you make it, but first impressions are everything. You don't have to know everything on Day 1. But you have to be willing to work hard and fast to fill the gaps. It also helps to have an elite Director of Operations! P.S. Guess the name of the arena in the comments. In our Creative Studies series, we’ve looked at Awareness, with the San Diego Zoo’s “PANDAS ARE BACK.” outdoor board, and Differentiation, with two sushi boards. Now, on to giving some love, to the “Funner, CA” campaign for Harrah’s Resort and Casino, from the folks at 62ABOVE. Here’s a category that has the advantage of universal understanding. We all know what a casino looks like, and in San Diego’s upscale gaming market, that it’s going to be pretty close to Vegas-level. So, if you want a bump in audience beyond your regulars (who don’t need anyone to remind them to go), reach above slot payout footage, blackjack hits and stock-ish smiley, happy winners. Ante up for “Funner, CA,” a campaign that creates a state of mind from a re-named city inhabited by The Rincon Band of Luiseno Mission Indians. It’s a great way to set up the bigger casino concept of fun that’s wrapped up in fantasy you don’t find most places in life. Hosted by star “mayors” who don’t take themselves seriously, like David Hasselhoff, Jane Lynch, Rob Riggle and Martin Short, and you got yourself a show.
