團結香港基金 Our Hong Kong Foundation(OHKF) launched its latest policy advocacy report entitled Adding Life to Years: Comprehensive End-of-Life Care for All on 9 Apr. The report highlighted that while Hong Kong's Advance Decision on Life-sustaining Treatment Bill was commendable in promoting end-of-life care (EoLC), this bill alone might not be sufficient to address the full range of care needs. Discussions on EoLC should not be limited to the last 6 to 12 months of one's life but should be a topic that can be discussed by citizens of all ages. Services should also be expanded beyond medical care to encompass the medical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of citizens in their final stage of life, ensuring holistic care. Dicky Chow, Head of Healthcare & Social Innovation, OHKF, pointed out that Advance Care Planning (ACP) and EoLC were of complementary relationship. For this reason, the entire ACP journey shall be expanded from EoLC, which refers to the last 6 to 12 months of one's life, to every stage of life, so that people can start preparing for their EoLC anytime. If there's one particular legislation with the capacity to halt most of the avoidable harm caused to patients at the point of care, it is the Patient Charter. WHO estimates that 1 in every 10 patients experience harm in healthcare and about 50% of this harm is preventable. This where the Patient Charter comes in. But how much do you know about Ghana's Patient Charter? What does each of the 14 rights and 9 responsibilities enshrined in the Charter mean in practice? Are all the rights legally enforceable? Are the 14 rights exhaustive? Are all the 14 rights still relevant after 12 years since becoming law? What has been the impact of the charter since becoming law? What can be done to scale up enforcement of the charter? Dear friends, kindly mark your dairies and calendars and make time to part of this important event. The Medico-Legal Symposium Theme: "Ghana's Patient Charter: 12 years on" Venue: Miklin Hotel-Kumasi Time: 10am Admission is free but registration is a must. Most end FGM/C (female genital mutilation/ cutting) education modules/ advocacy tools: ❌ Do not focus on the Malaysian or Southeast Asian practice. ❌ Has underlying tones of ethnocentrism. In this leaflet for healthcare professionals, we attempt to be fair in our assessment of the practice in Malaysia while acknowledging its harm and prioritising girls and women to the highest level. Please read to learn more on why we should end female circumcision in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. As a reminder, female circumcision is: ❌ Not a medical procedure. ❌ Causes more harm than any benefit. ❌ Not taught in any medical school worldwide. ❌ Not part of our culture or religion. #internationaldayofzerotoleranceforfemalegenitalmutilation #endfgmnow #endfgm #endfemalegenitalmutilation #endfemalegenitalcutting #endfgmc #hentikansunatperempuan #sunatperempuan #Malaysia #southeastasia https://lnkd.in/eiaNdm-s

STIR have created this petition which I have signed. It's a crucial time for wellbeing in Aotearoa and I believe that the establishment of Te Aka Whai Ora in response to the WAI 2575 report is key to our future wellness as a nation, addressing the impacts of generations of institutional harm, and rebalancing outcomes. Upholding te ao māori held commissioning is a constitutional obligation, and a human right for māori. https://lnkd.in/gWivCWxJ

How can we prepare better for future health crises? From the perspective of intellectual property (IP), it is important to address the interplay between IP rights, access to publicly funded research results, and public policy goals. To support member states, observers, and other stakeholders in navigating this complex landscape, we are launching an event where the findings of the Discussion Paper on IP and Access to Publicly Funded Research Results in Health Emergencies will be presented. The paper addresses: 🔹 Government policies, regulations and practical management of publicly funded research results in various countries. 🔹Management policies and practices of publicly funded international R&D projects. 🔹 The handling of IP generated through publicly funded research to serve the broader public policy goals. 🔹 Best practices derived from the analysis of IP management policies aiming to enhance our preparedness for future health emergencies. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/ek9Cz9hF I hope that you can join us tomorrow (Tuesday 6th) for the online launch event starting at 3 p.m. CET. #IP #IntellectualProperty #HealthEmergencies #GlobalHealth #Health
