If there's one particular legislation with the capacity to halt most of the avoidable harm caused to patients at the point of care, it is the Patient Charter. WHO estimates that 1 in every 10 patients experience harm in healthcare and about 50% of this harm is preventable. This where the Patient Charter comes in. But how much do you know about Ghana's Patient Charter? What does each of the 14 rights and 9 responsibilities enshrined in the Charter mean in practice? Are all the rights legally enforceable? How can we prepare better for future health crises? From the perspective of intellectual property (IP), it is important to address the interplay between IP rights, access to publicly funded research results, and public policy goals. To support member states, observers, and other stakeholders in navigating this complex landscape, we are launching an event where the findings of the Discussion Paper on IP and Access to Publicly Funded Research Results in Health Emergencies will be presented. The paper addresses: 🔹 Government policies, regulations and practical management of publicly funded research results in various countries. 🔹Management policies and practices of publicly funded international R&D projects. 🔹 The handling of IP generated through publicly funded research to serve the broader public policy goals. 🔹 Best practices derived from the analysis of IP management policies aiming to enhance our preparedness for future health emergencies.
