We all understand why work experience for students makes sense, but equally important is that teachers and Careers leaders have a chance to see and experience the realities of working in 2024. I have not met any teacher who has taken part who didn't find it massively rewarding and useful. Genuine interest in a work-life balance… As a mother of two young children, I deeply appreciate the understanding around family commitments and the encouragement to maintain healthy work boundaries that I hear and see. Needing to do a school run is NORMAL, just normal, totally, normal. Conversations about children are flowing and received well not with eye rolls or quick changes of subject. The school calls… you’d better pick up! Am I actually in a place where your children are priority over your job!? I think I am! 🥹😍 1. Commitment to student success… The team is dedicated to empowering our students, challenging self-limiting beliefs, and fostering a growth mindset. The compassion in every single conversation about every single student is actually potentially dangerous for a cry baby like me 🥹 I’m about to earn that reputation for sure! 🤣 jokes aside, It’s truly moving to hear the undertone of these ladies is always absolute empathy and fairness for the students! 1. My colleagues are not only skilled professionals but also attentive listeners and supportive team members… a silly conversation I guess, with Sarah in my team, about how I can keep Lillies and she can keep Orchids but I can NOT keep orchids and she can NOT keep Lillies 🌺⚰️ It was one of those conversations in which your very clearly being heard. Every word important. These ladies are those type of listeners! I'm inspired by my line manager, head of department in creative and digital here as her leadership embodies fairness, openness, and a real, true passion for positively impacting students lives! A manager who is actually an inspiration, not an askhole, finally! 😅😌 I'm genuinely excited to contribute to this team and its positive culture and play a part in shaping our students' futures! As I spend so much time in classrooms working with young people, it's evident that so many teenagers want to be independent, and to get that independence, they get their first job by the end of year 9. Those jobs mainly consist of the known pathways for a teenager, McDonalds, KFC or with their Parents/Guardian. What if we opened the doors for trades to be an option?#ConstructionAssociationofNovaScotia #CANS is doing just that. The #BuildingFuturesforYouth program run by Adam Gilbert and Tanya Reddick during the Summer holidays, provides opportunities for young people to learn life skills, get safety certificates, gain credits towards their high school graduation and GET PAID minimum wages (with the opportunity for double time like any other Employee), all with a wrap around check-in system. With a 95% successful completion rate and young women's involvement ever increasing (currently 16%), no wonder Industry Employers are coming back year on year for more students.
