In the mountains of the Philippines, there are many small villages that are hard to reach. These villages often don't get much help. Let's talk about a group of organizations working together to change this. Ray and Dawn Spoon used to be missionaries, and now they're helping out as volunteers on the island of Mindoro. They're working with FARM STEW, PAMAS, Siloam Valley Institute, and the SULADS to make a difference. Soon, 50 local people will learn about FARM STEW and go out to help these villages live better lives. I got to see what's happening with this partnership. FARM STEW is getting ready to send out kits to help, Siloam Valley is getting ready for the training, PAMAS is busy with their demonstration garden, and the SULAD director is heading out to a remote school to help with some problems. Talking to Dawn Spoon, she explained, "FARM STEW teaches people in these villages how to farm better and live healthier. Merma is one of these villages, where it's really hard to get food. But now, the kids are learning to grow their own vegetables at school, which helps them and their families." PAMAS and SULADS are really important for these villages. PAMAS helps with transport so people and supplies can get there easier, while SULADS starts schools that change lives. It's amazing to see everyone working together. With God's help, these villages are changing, and more people are joining the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Let's keep these frontline workers in our prayers. God listens when we pray. Young people are always willing to share what they know and learn more about what they know. Even during our downtime there is always a learning experience waiting to happen. What is in your community that grows in abundance? Have you looked at how you can value-add and create something new? Taking a walk with the young ones on the Mpolonjeni community was not only fun because we were out in nature. But because we got our hands dirty in a way that allows for us to look at what essential oil produce plants are in our communities. Trial and error are the most amazing way to experience. Zero waste means that every experiment leads to greatness.

If we want to end hunger, we have to replace dangerous misconceptions with truth and compassion. In 2016, that was my big idea worth spreading on the TEDx stage 🎤 (link in comments) and it is still going strong! It took me a long time to realize my misconceptions and assumptions perpetuated hunger, despite nearly 3 decades of professional experience in hunger relief. 🤯 Only when I immersed myself in new situations and listened to stories did I realize I was wrong. To bring about change, we must address our judgments about food assistance programs and that change starts with each one of us. When constructing false narratives about strangers to support our beliefs, let's transform them into uplifting stories. For example, when we see someone driving a luxurious car while picking up food at a food pantry, instead of jumping to negative assumptions, let's explore other possibilities: 1. The car might belong to a friend or family member. 2. The person might have experienced unemployment but couldn't sell their car. 3. They could be picking up food for someone else. By considering alternative scenarios, we can avoid hasty judgments and foster empathy and understanding. We cannot walk in another person's shoes, but if we make assumptions, let them be heartfelt stories, not narratives that breed resentment. #FoodDignity #FoodDignityBook #FoodDignityMovement Art work credit: Rebecca Garofano, MS, RDN Sage B. Fantastic day at YPO's Real Estate Rountable in #Dallas. Hard to beat hearing from former President George W. Bush this aftenroon but the thing that stuck with me today was from pollster Frank Luntz. For all of you younger parents... He had 6 insight tips on how to raises healthy and successful children: 1 - How often do you dinner w/ your children? 5 nights or more you show your child they are the most important thing in life. 2 - How often do you take them to religious services? 3 - How often do you check their homework? 4 nights or more is what is needed. 4 - Do you take your kids away for trips and leave the phone in the room? 5 - Do you know where they are on Friday + Saturday nights? Do you know who their friends are? If they lie to you about that… then… 6 - Do they participate in a team sport? Get 5 of 6 of these down… You are more likely to raise successful and healthy children. Now... off to Palm Springs for ICSC's Western Dealmaking! #CRE #conferenceseason
