🏳️🌈 As we continue to celebrate #PrideMonth this June, let’s remember the importance of allyship in the workplace all year round.
#Allyship is a verb, not just a noun. It involves actively amplifying the voices of our colleagues, including our LGBTQIA+ colleagues, who face the risk of exclusion and/or discrimination through behaviors, attitudes, structures, or systems. For example, statistics show that 1 in 5 LGBTQIA+ individuals has felt discriminated against when looking for a job and/or while at work (EU LGBTIQ Survey 2023).
✨ You demonstrate allyship when you leverage your privilege in situations where others do not share similar privileges. This can involve fostering supportive personal relationships, engaging in public advocacy, and driving systemic improvements in workplace policies and culture.
In today’s world and workplace, equity and inclusion are essential. For those of you who are leaders, the importance of allyship is heightened.
💡 So where do you start? Educate yourself and your organisation. As a manager, you play a vital role in creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can be their authentic selves. Become a role model in your organisation, fostering a work environment where your employees can thrive.
