🌟 Hey everyone! Let's talk about creating a cozy and inclusive environment together! 🌈✨ 💡 Here are a few friendly tips on how to make our space more comfortable for everyone: 1️⃣ Embrace diversity: Celebrate and respect the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences that each person brings to the table. Our differences make us awesome! 2️⃣ Active listening: Take the time to truly listen to others without judgment. Show genuine interest and empathy, and encourage everyone to share their thoughts and ideas. 3️⃣ Use inclusive language: Be mindful of the words we choose and avoid any language that could exclude or offend others. Let's create an atmosphere where everyone feels valued and respected. 4️⃣ Encourage participation: Make sure everyone has an equal chance to contribute and be heard. Create a safe space where people feel comfortable expressing themselves and sharing their opinions. 5️⃣ Foster a supportive atmosphere: Offer a helping hand, provide constructive feedback, and uplift one another. Let's build each other up and create a positive and encouraging environment. 🤗 Remember, it's the little things we do that make a big difference in fostering inclusivity and comfort. Yesterday, I saw this when I took my kids to the playground. It took me a little bit to understand what it was, but when I finally did, it was brilliant. The joy of a swing is one of the first adventures we experience as kids. It got me thinking: as a minority who always expects more inclusivity, how am I opening the spaces for more inclusivity for those different from me? Why is the whole topic of inclusivity challenging? Humans are complicated, and strangers are even harder to understand. Being more inclusive means understanding what is strange or new to you. That's why we see so many falling attempts at inclusivity policies that die in paper around offices. However, this fantastic swing gives me food for thought and exemplifies the outstanding achievements of being more inclusive daily. #inclusion #diversity

Happy Thursday! 😊 This is Day 4 in our Speak Up and Communicate Inclusively series and today we’re speaking up about the power of a name! 📛 A person’s name is a fundamental part of their identity. Making the effort to pronounce it correctly demonstrates respect, inclusivity, and a willingness to connect on a personal level. When we mispronounce names, it can make people feel disrespected, excluded, or even invisible. Giving people nicknames without their consent can also be harmful. It can erase their identity and make them feel like they don’t belong. So how do we make an effort? 1️⃣ Avoid nicknames: Unless explicitly invited, don’t give someone a nickname. 2️⃣ Ask politely: If you’re unsure, ask the person how to pronounce their name. 3️⃣ Practice and repeat: Take the time to practice pronouncing the name correctly. 4️⃣ Encourage others: Educate and remind colleagues and friends to do the same. 5️⃣ Speak up: If you hear someone constantly mispronouncing a name, speak up and gently correct them. For more tips on how to Speak Up, read our National Inclusion Week article. 📖 https://lnkd.in/e7nNsrU8 Need support in fostering a more inclusive workplace? People talk about inclusion being an important (they may even use the word crucial) part of the work that they deliver. How it is unthinkable that it wouldn't be considered for their customer base. But let's be clear, that it also applies to the every day, moment-to-moment interaction, conversation, and engagement, with work colleagues too. How it is demonstrated when you are in the office/in a meeting/on a call/in a casual conversation will say more about your belief in it, than anything. Privilege and bias have a sneaky way of betraying how we think and what we end up saying out loud. Being inclusive is about many things. It is both fundamental and obvious, but also sensitive and nuanced. It is about building community with connection and with respect at the heart. #thinkinclusion #beinclusion #wordsmatter

Recently I've been watching videos and going through situations that made me understand that when you respect others regardless the way they dress, the way they look, things they own, etc. It actually pays off! I'd tried finding words to post it but I couldn't. It's when I came across this post by Coach Kelvin Waga that I thought I could share this with my network as well. Now like the sayings go; -Respect is like a boomerang that comes back to you. -Start with respect, the rest will follow . And as cliche as it may sound, the Kinyarwanda saying: -Gira neza wigendere, ineza uzayisanga imbere (translated; Do good, good will find you ahead) Which according to me starts with respect. Now in all these, my key take aways are: -You'll never have to apologize for respectful behavior. -Showing respect is the classiest action. -Always show others the respect you wish to receive. -When you put respect out in the world, you'll find that it returns to you. -It costs you nothing to treat others in a way that lets them maintain dignity. -If you treat others with a lack of respect, that says more about you than it does about them. And to say that everyone we meet is silently fighting their battles, I agree. P.S: Never look down on anyone regardless positions, possessions ,etc Let me know what you think in the comments.
When we prioritize valuing individuals for who they are rather than what they do, we foster a culture of inclusivity and appreciation. Let's strive to make respect a universal habit, transcending titles and job descriptions #Respect #Inclusivity #Appreciation"
