Wow, I can't believe it's already been two weeks since we started working as STEM trainees. So far, we have learned about: 📓 Clean cooking with OnStove 📘 SDG7's new ambitions 📕 GIS as an energy planning tool 📙 Gender equality pursuits in the energy sector 📗 Policy and regulatory frameworks and so much more! These sessions are preparing and empowering us to be able to deliver safer, greener, more sustainable projects and giving us tools to help and empower others. The first challenges did not take long to appear: ❌ Struggles with potential beneficiaries due to misinformation about photovoltaics 🏠 Lack of formal residency documents 📣 Insufficient communication channels with the communities 🔨 Lack of qualified professionals in the field There's one permanent truth and it is: we have a lot of work in front of us. It's important to break it down into smaller goals. But also; ⚡ There's power in each one of us! Use your voice to talk about solutions 🔋 Prioritize efficiency, environmental responsibility, and transparency 🤝 Seek alliances and partnerships, consider smaller businesses, everyone has something to offer. #seforall #stem #womeninstem #traineeship #operacionsolar

It is not just about inclusion and diversity. Encouraging transwomen to pursue STEM fields and careers as scientists is important not only for promoting diversity and inclusion but also for improving the social and economic well-being of trans communities. By providing opportunities for transwomen to excel in STEM, we empower them to access higher-paying and more stable careers, thereby enhancing their financial security and economic independence. This, in turn, contributes to the broader goal of reducing inequalities and fostering a more equitable society where all individuals, regardless of gender identity, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to scientific advancements and economic progress.

In the journey towards gender equality within #STEM fields, the stories of women who have paved the way are key to driving change. Professionals like Vania Lombardi, who has challenged gender norms throughout her long career at Versalis, show how women can excel in STEM industries, change mindsets and inspire the next generation. At Corteva most of our employees have a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) educational background and many of us are female. Achieving gender equality in education is really important as diversity in the workplace is a critical aspect of business success. I was not encouraged by the student guidance center to follow a STEM education, but I did and I could not be happier I did. We need so many profiles of people with a STEM background and I have seen that in registration the 'typical' female soft skills lead to exceptionally successful employees. To all girls good in mathematics and/or science do not let yourself be deterred of following a STEM education. Yesterday, 11 February was the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day designated by the UN to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, as well as gender equality across science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.    As a "recent" recruit to the European #sustainability #electrification and #digitalisation effort I fully adhere to the importance of this day. UNESCO data shows that only 30% of all female students pursue STEM fields in higher education and although women contribute to electrical system research, development, hardware design, implementation, and many other subsystems in Electrical and Electronics Engineering they are significantly under-represented among patented inventors, with only 10% of applications coming from women.   When girls opt -out of science-related disciplines because of gender-related barriers and norms, we collectively lose out on opportunities to drive the energy transition forward at scale and speed.   Thank-you Europacable for trusting in me. According to the UN, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which was yesterday, is an opportunity to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls is crucial to economic development. For women to develop, progress, become empowered, and thrive economically and socially, it is essential that more women are given access to ICT and STEM related careers and sectors. Research has shown that women are underrepresented in these sectors, both in South Africa and globally. Today, we look specifically at women in the engineering sector in South Africa. Did you know that only 6% of professional engineers in South Africa are women? Data from the 2021 annual report from the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) shows the stark gender gap in engineering. Women make up 23% of candidate engineers, or engineers in training, and just 5% of candidate-certificate engineers. This shows a dire need to support more women in the sector.
