What led you to Van Martin? 🔶 I prayed for this position. I had applied for 4 different jobs and went to different interviews, but there was something different about VM. The moment I walked in, when I met Lori and Adam for the first time I felt this was it. I was very persistent after they interviewed me twice because I knew this was the job God wanted for me, responding to my prayers. What has been a valuable lesson you’ve learned throughout your career? 🔷 The importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and humbleness. What inspires you to learn and grow? 🔶 My wife and 2 kids are what drives me every day. What is the most unique part of working at Van Martin? 🔷 The family-oriented culture. It's difficult for me to open up to people, but I feel that with the environment that's here, how everyone cares about you, I'll get there with time. How has Van Martin helped you grow within your work and/or personal life? 🔶 Adam has been very helpful to me, he's been like a father, always giving me good advice and critique when needed, has also helped me tremendously in my self-awareness, interpersonal skills, and the way I handle issues, always giving me a good self-help book to read. Describe an interesting hobby or pastime you have. 🔷 I love to play the piano, go out to nature reserves with the family, and play video games. What is your favorite place to go on vacation? 🔶 My country of origin, the Dominican Republic. What’s one thing on your bucket list? 🔷 Buy my house, to be able to homestead. So last night i was thinking about taking a melatonin to get some shut eye as i didn’t get much sleep this week. What was i thinking? Im a logistics professional, sleep is for the faint hearted. We dont play that out here lol Glad I got these calls before i was about to make that stupid decision. Swapped that out with a coffee and got to grindin like a G! First call was from a driver hauling ice cream. Some codes came up and the reefer turned off. Love those ones, keeps the adrenaline rushing and on my A game. For my love for kids and not wanting any ice cream to go to waste. We rang up everyone that could have anything to do with being a mechanic in the state. I was lucky to convince one that hes doing gods work at that hour. Though it took a lot of calls, he came through and saved all the ice cream, could not be more grateful! This excitement doesn’t finish there while i juggling these calls, one of our drivers went MIA! He had to stage 5 trailers at a shipper for storage as they were starting repairs at their facility. The redbull had kicked in hard by this time and mama didnt raise no quitter! I drove straight to the yard and started moving these trailers to their facility not too far from us. By 5:30 these trailers were staged and I could go straight to my office and handle business! Two things really annoyed me doing all this. While dropping the landing gear on one of the trailers i noticed graphiti on the side of the trailer and a pretty ugly piece of art on top of that. Second thing was when i got to the office with all the greace on me, i dirtied a lot if stuff on my table that i prefer stay clean. Lesson i learned here was we need better watch on our parked trailers to prevent such art work and when returning from the field i need to wash my hands no matter how important checking my emails may seem 😂 Still going hard and will keep going hard. As we start our week, take time to appreciate the little things. Romo (guess who he was named after) is my canine copilot. We call him the kids’ “fluffy brother”, the “carpool canine”, and many other nicknames. This morning, he patiently waited by the door to the garage with tail wagging in anticipation for the chaos that is morning carpools. He does his best to always come along, giving the kids a goodbye tail wag as they head off to their day. In the afternoon, he goes back to the door in preparation to leave to pick them up again. Life as a dog is pretty routine. Romo spends his days like many dogs: watching over the house, snoozing on the couch, and being present at mealtimes should a food item drop from a child’s grasp. But, there’s two times of day that Romo absolutely lives for: carpool drop offs and pickups. I will be the first to admit that I don’t often share the same enthusiasm Romo has for carpool. Between traffic, waiting in lines, and trying to get three kids in the car, it can be downright frustrating. Despite the challenges carpool brings, I look over and see a being that is absolutely thrilled to go along for the ride. In a world that pressures us to always be moving fast, I’m reminded there’s opportunities in the time spent waiting. I get a chance to talk to my kids before they head off for the day. I get a chance to listen to them as they tell me the highlights at pickup. Romo reminds me that these moments are fleeting and I can find meaning in the mundane. #mondaymotivation
