Every year since 1995, the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development Program has awarded five-year grants to junior faculty members who serve as academic role models in research and education. These grants, which are known as CAREER awards, are some of the most prestigious available to early-career researchers and often serve as a foundation for an illustrious career in research. Rice University psychologist Danielle King will use her 2023 CAREER award of $530,000 to examine how organizations can support employees who are facing race-based threats — and what strategies employers could use to prevent them from happening altogether. https://bit.ly/3KmQtjm

It was a busy start to National Careers week yesterday. Wonderful to have the opportunity to catch up with our alumni over lunch before whisking them off to their various talks which were absolutely packed full of students. Listening to the types of questions our students asked reinforced how important it is to have younger alumni coming back to give these talks. The job market is changing rapidly impacted by factors such as AI to remote working. It is essential that our alumni are on the pulse of all these changes in order to best advise our students. #nationalcareersweek #alumniengagement #alumnitalk

Doesn’t it feel like all we talk about these days is AI? It tops every agenda now – from Davos to Dayton. Yes, we need to take it seriously and prepare: jobs will go away and many more will change – but how? As technology does more of the work on our behalf – for better or worse – distinctly human capabilities like creativity, critical thinking, clarity of expression, and caring for human experience will increasingly become the “hard” skills. Are we ready? Thanks to Michael Elliott and Emily Cameron Griffen for having me back to Amherst College (seriously, twist my arm…) to share a perspective on how a Liberal Arts education will prepare today's students for leadership in the future – in careers, yes – and also in life and as citizens of an increasingly complex society.
At the first-ever Sophomore Summit, Anne-Claire C. Roesch '08 spoke to the class of 2026 about the value of the liberal arts for their future careers and lives. She joined President Elliott for Between 2 Mammoths to talk about what she shared with the students and her continued involvement with the College as an alumna. 📹: Marcus DeMaio / Office of Communications
