At the end of the six-week course, we ask pupils to imagine they are explaining to another class what the Hummingbird Project is and what to expect from it. This pupil from Medlock Valley Primary School in Oldham has given us a great summary: "The Hummingbird is a 6 week adventure in learning about what makes people feel good. Scientists have found that there are simple activities we can do to make us feel happier." #learningwaystofeelhappier #positivepsychology #positiveeducation #childrensmentalhealth #hummingbirdproject

Hello from SCINET! We are always thinking about the implications of having the right kinds of licensing mechanisms for life sciences research. Gatorade (PepsiCo) 🥤 is a compelling example of how the right licensing mechanisms can amplify the impact of research. Origins 🐊: In 1965, researchers at the University of Florida developed a drink to address the dehydration issues faced by the university's football players. They named it "Gatorade" in honor of the university's mascot, the Gators. Licensing for Success 📜 : The University of Florida agreed to a licensing deal with a consortium of private investors to commercialize Gatorade. This deal allowed the university to receive a percentage of the royalties from Gatorade sales. Economic Triumph 💲: Gatorade's commercial success was monumental. It not only became a multi-billion-dollar brand but also generated significant royalty revenues for the University of Florida. As of October 2023, the university had earned over $280 million in royalties from Gatorade, and the total royalties to the scientists who invented Gatorade surpass $1 billion. This success story underscores the transformative potential of effective licensing in translating research into real-world impact. By creating strategic partnerships and leveraging IP effectively, we can ensure that groundbreaking discoveries in life sciences reach their full potential, benefitting both researchers and society at large. Join us on this journey to unlock innovation and drive progress in the life sciences! Stay tuned to SCINET for more insights! #LifeSciences #IntellectualProperty #Innovation #ResearchFunding #TechForGood

Today in my Plant Science class with Michael Nattrass, we discussed carotenoids and Xanthophylls. He went into depth on how Carotenoids produce the yellow and orange color in leaves and how Xanthophyll produces the bright yellow. I thought this was amazing learning on how the leaves get their color! Tennessee Technological University #TNTech #WeAreTNTech #WingsUp #TechisTN #TNtechag.
