🎯Types of Additive Manufacturing 💡Directed Energy Deposition (DED) In Directed energy deposition (DED) we use welding principles to create 3D objects. 💡 In DED we usually use material like metal wire or metal powder which is melted by a focused energy source like an electron or laser beam. 💡 The liquid material is precisely poured onto the build platform, where it quickly hardens and forming a layer. 💡This process repeats until the complete object is finished. We can use Direct Energy deposition for repairing item as well. Additionally, in this we can use multiple materials in a single printing process. #additivemanufacturing #3dprinting #fusionenergy #industria40 #automotiveindustry

Hot off the press: Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) beyond the Gaussian beam! Using a coupled Monte Carlo-thermal transport modeling framework, we examined the formation and evolution of microstructure during laser powder bed fusion using various beam profiles, including Gaussian, ring, and Bessel beams. Our results show that using spatially extended beams provides a new design tool to control thermal profiles and tailor the resultant grain microstructures.
