March is Women's History Month! According to the National Women’s History Alliance, this month's theme is "Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion." We would like to highlight Audre Lorde, a poet, warrior, feminist, mother, pioneer, lover, and survivor. Her poetry explored everything from racism, women's rights, lesbian relationships, and homophobia. Lorde called out the feminist movement for catering exclusively to white women. Happy International Women's Day to all the amazing women that I have had the privilege to work with, to learn from and be inspired by each and every day. This year's theme for Internatinal Women's Day is to inspire inclusion and I cannot think of a better theme. When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, to embrace diversity, we forge a better world. Once upon a time women fought for equal rights. I believe we now have different fights! Women now need recognition in the work place for the multiple roles they play. Women need recognition in the home for the sacrifices they make. Women need recognition in the society for being who she wants to be. Women need acceptance for the choices she makes in her life. As humans we all go through changes in life but specifically as women it’s not only the life changes but it’s also what’s going on internally - our body, our hormones, emotions; these shifts us completely. Despite all these changes we still emerge and give all we’ve got. Let’s start to recognize these aspects that gets undervalued in the name of equality. Women are not the same as men. As we come to the close of National Women's History Month, I'd like to take a moment to celebrate the unique theme for 2024: Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. This theme celebrates women across the nation who recognize the necessity of eradicating bias and discrimination from our lives and institutions for a better future. Women from diverse backgrounds have long understood that an unfair playing field cannot lead to equality or justice. Throughout 2024, let's pay tribute to local women, both historical and contemporary, who have boldly led the charge for change and established stronger protections, practices, and legislation aligned with these principles. Who are the women in your community or organization that you will honor?

With International Women's Day approaching, it's a time to celebrate the diverse achievements of women/womxn while striving for a world where everyone feels valued and included. This year's theme, "Inspire Inclusion," reminds us to create environments that embrace diversity and reject bias and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive and acknowledge different realities for different populations of women. So, let's think about how we can make our workplaces and communities more inclusive. Together, we can build a world where our differences are celebrated. When women aren't present, we must ask: "If not, why not?" When women are present, we must ensure, women are there with their diverse intersectional identities! When women are discriminated against, we must call out that practice! When the treatment of women is not equitable, we must take action! And we must do this each time, every time!
