📊 Today is #MondoDataDay, and we’re celebrating the last Monday of the month by sharing #data related to the month's #holidays or initiatives. Take a moment to learn something new and share it with others in your network. ➡️ Historian Carter G. Woodson launched Black History Week in 1926 to recognize the contributions of African Americans. Fifty years later, Congress expanded it to National #BlackHistoryMonth. In 2019, Black business owners owned 3.5M businesses and employed more than 1.2M people. Check out the following #stats provided by the U.S. Small Business Administration: https://lnkd.in/eKiCzuKs ❤️ 1 in every 3 deaths in the United States is related to cardiovascular disease. February is American Heart Month, a time when all people—especially women—are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. Celebrating Black History and Heart Health Month this February. Nearly half of all African American adults have some form of cardiovascular disease that includes heart disease and stroke — and high blood pressure is the leading cause of heart attack and stroke in the US. A staggering 2 out of every 5 African American adults have high blood pressure. Let’s continue to educate while we celebrate!! We might just save Five Heartbeats. Why does the racial disparity in pain treatment persist? History reveals uncomfortable truths. A myth, originating from slavery, falsely claimed that Black people have a higher pain tolerance. This myth served as a rationalization for brutal treatment by slaveowners. Sadly, this myth persists today in medical settings, leading to the underestimation and undertreatment of pain in Black patients. Recognizing this history is crucial for dismantling systemic racism in medicine. #TheMusingPhD #BlackHistoryMonth #RacialBiasInMedicine #PainEquity #HealthcareDisparities #HealthcareDisparities References: Bourke J.
