🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨 WASDA thanks the House of Representatives for advancing H.R. 8812, the Water Resources Development Act of 2024 on a strong bipartisan majority. Since 2014, every Congress has come together to reauthorize this important bipartisan legislation every two years. WRDA legislation supports Army Corps of Engineers projects that improve our nation’s water resources, including flood and storm protection and critical aspects of our water supply infrastructure. In addition, WRDA legislation supports projects which make improvements to America’s ports and the navigation of our inland waterways that supply chains rely on for the movement of goods. These projects provide vital benefits to America’s economy and critical resources for the health and safety of our communities. WASDA strongly supports final passage of H.R. 8812 and calls on Congress to send WRDA to the President’s desk as soon as possible. #MakeWavesWithWASDA Eddie Morrison Theresa Jaime David Shaw Nathaniel Peirce Rory Budds JB Butler Troy Dressler Anne Forrest Tim Hallmark Doug K. Highlights the incredible need and opportunity where #AAM and #UAS can, and are, introducing technologies that can save lives and property. These devastating fires impact countless victims. There are those whose homes and families are immediately impacted, but the devastation reverberates beyond that, driving property insurance premiums through the roof and making homeowner's ability to secure insurance nearly impossible as insurers flee the state. The faster that AAM and UAS solutions enter the market to help mitigate the damage of these events and support the heroes fighting these fires, the faster we can bring these events back to manageable, even if always tragic, parts of our lives. Today was day 1 of 3 supporting the Metis Nation in its Emergency Management journey and supporting their citizens. Decolonizing Emergency Management is a priority for Hazardscape. As we look to the future of Canada and its Indigenous peoples, in the context of disasters, helping them to secure funding without conditions is a primary aspect of self-determination. The Metis Nation is a partner and resource that all non-Indigenous communities, with the provinces, territories, and federal government, should be engaging with in the development of their emergency management programming.

In an emergency response you may see fire trucks, Defence Force unimogs, ambulances, Police and councils and ask, "where is Civil Defence?" You may be surprised to learn that together all of these agencies, make up the Civil Defence system. In a response they are all coordinated by the 16 Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) groups across the motu. CDEM groups will also work with iwi, hapū, Government agencies and community groups. When they're not in response, CDEM have permanent professionals who work to reduce the risks and hazards in their community. We all have a role to play in an emergency. Everyone; including individuals, whānau, family and communities share the responsibility for reducing risk and strengthening resilience. In an emergency, it could be days before emergency services can begin responding to individual communities, and several weeks or months before normal infrastructure and utilities are up and running. The most immediate source of help will be your neighbours, together with the preparedness actions you took in your household before an event. Together, we are all Civil Defence.
