What you should put at the back of your mind when you're about to edit 📝✨Embracing the distinct viewpoint of each author. As editors, we're not just polishing grammar and syntax; we're champions of individuality, guardians of voice, and cultivators of authenticity. You should know that every author brings a unique perspective to the table, and it's your privilege to amplify their voice while preserving their essence. In a world where conformity often overshadows originality, let's celebrate the beauty of diverse perspectives. 🌟 Let's honor the richness that comes from embracing different voices, ideas, and styles, because it's through this diversity that the true magic of storytelling emerges. So here's to the authors who dare to be different, and to the editors who help them shine. Together, we create literary landscapes where every voice finds its place and every story is told with authenticity. 📚💫 #EmbraceUniqueness #CelebratePerspectives #EditingMagic

Thank you to The Trouble Club for a great evening with #Dawn O’ Porter and @GabyRoslin in conversation at the brilliant venue The Ministry. Thanks for being part of it Louise Stacey. Writing plays a crucial role in #research, and it’s always fascinating to hear from authors about their writing processes and the powerful impact of their work. Dawn’s approach to writing resonates with the process of crafting research debriefs. Audience: Dawn remains acutely aware of her readers at all times. Similarly, in research, we constantly consider our audience, wanting to represent them accurately while ensuring our narrative remains compelling. The Hook: For Dawn, the journey begins with discovering that captivating opening line—the “killer line” that draws readers in. Likewise, as researchers, we aim for our insights to have impact and engage stakeholders effectively. Authors have the unique power to shape our perspectives and ignite our imaginations. Collaborating with kids (in particular) in research does exactly that to us, as a researcher 😊

David Kinnane offers a detailed approach to supporting reluctant writers by understanding their challenges, fostering positive attitudes, and using explicit, scaffolded instruction to build their skills and confidence, ultimately helping them see themselves as capable and successful writers in his article, "Never Give Up, Never Surrender! Supporting Reluctant Writers to Succeed," published in the September 2024 issue of the Dystinct Magazine. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gueMKg-E #dyslexia #evidencebased

Why is writing SO IMPORTANT? Translating your thoughts and feelings into language can be psychologically and physically beneficial. Once we can distill complex experiences into more understandable packages, we can begin to move beyond them. Happy Writing friends ✍🏼📔 #journal #journaling #journalingprompts

Editors: The Seven Deadly Myths Once in a while, I chat to authors, who mutter darkly about the terrible things they’ve heard about editors. Unsurprisingly, these conversations reveal that there are a lot of factual inaccuracies floating around regarding editorial gatekeepers. So, why not indulge me for a moment, while I attempt to dispel the rumours. 1. All editors are the same As far as I’m aware, I haven’t been cloned with other editors of my acquaintance. We are all quite different. Many of us specialise in certain genres. Others only offer particular services. There is no one-size-fits-all editor. You just need to find the right one for you. 2. Editors are evil destroyers of dreams Yes, the bad ones probably are, but they are hopefully few and far between. I would recommend that you do your research before working with an editor, by using a reputable directory, looking at testimonials and asking lots of questions. 3. We change text purely to justify our existence Believe me – there simply isn’t the time or budget for me to interfere with your text just for the sake of it. It’s not my book. To find out what the other 4 myths are, and why they are erroneous, why not take a look at: https://lnkd.in/d-uTYA7c #helpingauthors #editing #mythbusting
