One of the reasons I wrote this book is to engage community members in thinking about the overlooked factors that affect their lives and health as members of a racialized group. What are the overlooked identity issues, overlooked historical factors, overlooked clinical biases, overlooked losses, and overlooked strengths that general counseling and psychology do not typically address? What aspects of Black American life are so ingrained in culture and survival that they become invisible even to many people inside the Black community? Preceding my graduation from Villanova University, this past weekend I presented my senior Peace and Justice thesis, titled; From N.W.A. to Lil Baby: How Hip Hop Music is Used as a Method of Resistance and Advocacy Against Police Brutality and Racial Criminal Injustice. I had a fulfilling time researching this topic and learned so much about the research process that I can bring forward with me in my future career!
