Hey #jobseekers, don't be intimidated by the high number of applicants. First of all, that's the number of people who clicked "Apply." That is NOT the number of people who completed and submitted an application (that number is far less). Second of all, most recruiters agree that only about 25% - 30% of applicants are qualified for the job. This story from Vincent Babcock illustrates the issue perfectly. Moral of the story - don't worry about the numbers. If you've got the skills and experience to do the job, then apply for it! #jobsearch #greenbannergang
Scared to apply for a job because of the high number of applicants?? Coming from a Recruiter of 4+ years, do NOT let that deter you from applying IF you are a fit. I wanted to share some very interesting stats on a role I posted a few weeks ago. I had the posting up for two weeks. It was a hybrid role and was clearly stated in the posting and the job description. The salary was posted as well. Out of 100+ applicants: - Over 70% were NOT local to the area the job was posted - around 20% didn't have anything on the resume that resembled the job description or a reason why they might be a fit - of the remaining 10%, there were 1-2 that got back to me. Moral of the story. Apply for the job.

I love following her on Linked In! Some things are so simple. I don't do reference checks and I don't believe in them. One, as a recruiter, I would never put someone's current job in jeopardy. Therefore, I would not ask for references from someone's current employer, nor would I call them without the candidate's knowledge. That would be the professional thing to do. Second, if I were a smart candidate, I would only give you the names of people who will say positive things about me. Therefore, what is the point of the reference check if I don't get real information from the people I am contacting? Be a grown-up and trust your instincts. If you can't make a hiring decision based on the conversations you have had, the interviews you have conducted, and the resumes and applications you have reviewed, you should not be in a position to offer people a job.

The recruiter asked for my current manager’s contact information. Do I have to give that up?

This question is for the recruiters. How is that you all work in the same office, have access to the same database of candidates and 10 of you send the same job opening to 1 candidate that has NO experience for the position you are trying to fill?
