No Credit Union Left Behind | Passionate Advocate for Financial Empowerment | Data and Research Geek | CU Lover for Life | Purpose Chaser | Changemaker
Be an ally. Be Kind. We ALL have one thing in common, we are all human beings first. Yet, so many different people continue to experience discrimination for a multitude of reasons. Financial wellness in the LBGTQ+ community face unique challenges and setbacks-- we all deserve to have access to financial products and services in an equitable environment. The 2024 LGBTQ+ Financial Wellness Report's key findings are a rude awakening that there is much work to be done for better financial inclusion. *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. Both BIPOC and younger (age 18-24) LGBTQ+ adults are even more likely to say they are financially unwell. *Three in ten (30.8%) LGBTQ+ adults say they have experienced discrimination while accessing financial services *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. *Nearly 60% (59.7%) of LGTBQ+ adults have annual household incomes below $75,000. "The data underscore the need for our economic empowerment programs, especially for younger BIPOC LGBTQ+ folks. I hope the data are a call to action for organizations serving our community. Given what we know about who is struggling the most, these organizations have an opportunity to center BIPOC young adults by being culturally responsive, trauma informed, and offering voice and choice to young people.” Maruka Rivers, Director of Economic Empowerment Programs at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation How is your credit union being an ally? ✨ LGBTQ+ History Month ✨ In case you didn't know, February is LGBTQ+ History month. Last week, to kick things off, Lucy Morgan and Seba Dyer joined a panel discussion for Campaign LGBTQ+ on allyship in the work place - there was some really interesting takeaways, so we thought we would share some of them throughout the month. 👉 Allyship Tip 1: Check your privilege 👈 Recognising your own privilege helps you to be more supportive to all marginalised groups, not just LGBTQ+ people. It forces you to view things through a different lens, and opens your eyes to inclusion. Reflecting and recognising your own unearned privileges in different aspects of your life allows you to support others who do not benefit in the same way and be a better ally to those who need it! #lgbtqhistorymonth #inclusion #allyship #podtalent

✨ LGBTQ+ History Month ✨ In case you didn't know, February is LGBTQ+ History month. This month, we’ve been sharing tips on how you can be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community, including how checking your own privilege helps you to be more supportive, calling out discrimination, and remembering that everyone is unique with individual lived experiences. 👉 Allyship Tip 4: Be receptive to feedback 👈 Being open, receptive and listening to feedback from other people is so important. They may want to highlight something you could have done differently, give some advice so you can be more supportive, or educate you on their lived experiences or those of the LGBTQ+ community. Listening, not being defensive when being corrected, and allowing the other person to share openly with you will all go towards enabling you to be a better ally and better support to your LGBTQ+ peers! #lgbtqhistorymonth #inclusion #allyship #podtalent

This month, we stand proud and united to commemorate Pride Month, a celebration of love, diversity, acceptance, and self-expression. This is not just a time to acknowledge the struggles and victories of the LGBTQ+ community but also to reflect on the importance of creating a more inclusive and empathetic society. As we celebrate Pride, let us also remember the importance of allyship. Being an ally means supporting and standing up for the rights of those who identify as LGBTQ+. It means creating safe spaces at work and in our communities where everyone can be their authentic selves. It requires constant learning, understanding, and committing to equality and justice. This Pride month—and all year round—let's strive to spread love, promote inclusivity, and uplift each other. Because when one of us succeeds, we all do. How are you celebrating Pride month and promoting inclusivity in your community? #PrideMonth #Inclusivity #Allyship

✨ LGBTQ+ History Month ✨ In case you didn't know, February is LGBTQ+ History month. This month, we’ve been sharing tips on how you can be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community, including how checking your own privilege helps you to be more supportive, and that you shouldn’t underestimate the power of calling out discrimination against LGBTQ+ people. 👉 Allyship Tip 3: Everyone is different! 👈 Meeting one trans person, means you’ve met one trans person. This goes for anyone within the LGBTQ+ community (or any marginalised community for that matter!). Everyone’s lived experiences and situations are completely different and each person should be treated as an individual. Don’t make assumptions about how that person wants to be referred to, how much information they feel comfortable sharing, or how much support they need, based on other LGBTQ+ people you have met. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and as an individual, so take the time to understand each person. #lgbtqhistorymonth #inclusion #allyship #podtalent
