Barriers to type 1 diabetes (T1D) care and treatment are complex, deeply rooted, and increasingly urgent as cases of diabetes climb sharply around the world. Community-based organizations provide vital services and have unique insights into the challenges of existing health systems and barriers faced by people with type 1 #diabetes. The T1D Community Fund, powered by Panorama Global with seed funding from The Helmsley Charitable Trust, received more than 300 applications from community-based organizations for its second request for proposals last fall. This data sheds light on the global landscape of CBO's work on type 1 diabetes and helps us understand how CBOs are supporting people living with type 1 diabetes, the challenges they face, and emerging opportunities for investment. Read more about what The T1D Community Fund learned from CBOs that applied for funding from The T1D Community Fund: https://bit.ly/4c4H5NA Next week, we’ll announce the 2024 T1D Community Fund grant recipients from across Africa, Central and South Asia, Europe, and Latin America! 🔬 Support Our Mission to Combat Delirium 🧠 Delirium—an acute, severe state of confusion—affects around 13% of hospital patients in Australia, often extending stays by up to three weeks. This complex condition is frequently undiagnosed, creating significant challenges for patient care. Leading researcher of Internal Medicine and Aged Care at RBWH, Professor Alison Mudge and her team have already made some powerful progress, including working with external partners to develop Eat Walk Engage® – a multi-disciplinary program that improves care for older people in hospital, prevents delirium and promotes faster recovery. Since it's establishment, the program has seen a remarkable 47% reduction in delirium rates of participants, providing safer care and getting older patients home to their families sooner. But the work isn't done yet. This month, the RBWH Foundation is raising funds to help improve outcomes for thousands of people affected by delirium, and other similar conditions, right across Australia. Today the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Community Fund, facilitated by Panorama Global, welcomes 14 outstanding organizations into the fold. With seed-funding from The Helmsley Charitable Trust, the Fund supports local groups who are bridging the gap between urgent needs and sustainable solutions. In the #T1D landscape, community-based organizations (CBOs) play an invaluable role in ensuring access to care and support. The grantee partners of The T1D Community Fund are deploying fit-for-purpose diabetes strategies in 30 unique settings around the world – and with specificity and strategic nuance that only a local organization could achieve. From the Fund's last cohort, Asociación para el Cuidado de la Diabetes en Argentina CUIDAR is leading political advocacy for T1D-inclusive policies. DiabAction Congo and Innovations for Development (Uganda) have trained healthcare workers and teachers to enhance diabetes care implementation. The potential for impact is undeniable. To date, the Fund has invested in 30 organizations, and this is only the beginning. I strongly encourage peer funders to consider this model. -- Amid global volatility, supporting local organizations puts communities in charge of their health and future. Support our recommendations for fair payment for partnership working! As part of a coalition of health #charities we have published new guidance to stop inequity in payment for partnership activities. The guidance is designed to help charities and partners calculate Fair Market Value (FMV). It has been developed by Cancer52, Charities Research Involvement Group, HRCI - Health Research Charities Ireland and the Patient Information Forum (PIF). It includes 5 recommendations to support fair payment for partnership work: 1. Full cost-recovery to support charity sustainability. 2. Minimum entry point of £100/€120 per hour for the work of charities. 3. Equity of payment with healthcare professionals where this is higher than the Patient Focused Medicines Development rate. 4. Market value add-on costs which take into account the intangible ‘brand’ benefits of partnering. 5. Fair contracting with FMV rates set from the start and 30-day payment terms. The recommendations have been endorsed by Asthma + Lung UK, Breakthrough Cancer Research, Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA), Debra Ireland, Irish Heart Foundation, Irish Lung Fibrosis Association, Maynooth University and the National Institute of Health and Care Research. Today, as I passed this impactful advertisement from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, it made me realize just how crucial it is to raise awareness for conditions like cystic fibrosis. The message, "We won't stop until everyone with cystic fibrosis can live a life unlimited," is a powerful reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by those affected and the relentless efforts needed to support and eventually cure this life-limiting disease. As someone who believes in the power of healthcare advancements and community support, I feel it's vital we all contribute to this cause. Whether through spreading the word, donating, or volunteering, every action counts towards building a better future for those dealing with cystic fibrosis. 💛💛 #CysticFibrosis #HealthAwareness #CommunitySupport #MakeADifference

The Kale Print team are sweating it up for Cystic Fibrosis this ‘Sweatember’! Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common life threatening genetic condition affecting New Zealand children. It is a progressive, genetic condition that limits the ability to breathe over time. As a multi-organ disorder, CF causes issues with the lungs, digestion, sinuses, blood sugar levels, liver, and many other parts of the body. At present there is no cure for CF, but we can help. Cystic Fibrosis NZ is the only charity in New Zealand dedicated to supporting and improving the quality of life for people with CF and their families. CFNZ’s goal for 2024 is to raise $100k during Sweatember. The funds raised support vital programs like the physical activity grant Breath 4CF and CFNZ’s new Wellbeing grant, improving mental health, physical health and quality of life for Kiwi’s living with Cystic Fibrosis. To help our friends at Cystic Fibrosis NZ the team from Kale Print will be sweating their way up Mauao, bright and early, Friday 20th September. Please donate today. Every dollar helps to improve lives of Kiwis living with Cystic Fibrosis. https://lnkd.in/gq4NV6N2 #sweatitforcysticfibrosis Cystic Fibrosis NZ

A study was conducted by Dr. McCrae of the Cleveland Clinic examining the effect of pomalidomide for hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) patients, specifically on the severity of nosebleeds. The pomalidomide exhibited a reduction in the severity of the nosebleeds of HHT patients. However, it must be noted that the use of pomalidomide for reducing the severity of nosebleeds for HHT patients has not been reviewed or approved by the US government. This post should not be considered medical advice and individuals are advised to contact a healthcare professional for proper treatment and guidance. Nonetheless, the outcome of this study may hold promise for advancements in the treatment of HHT. An entire community of patients, their families, and friends benefit from increased HHT awareness and availability of care. Despite Type 1 Diabetes management advancements, exercise-induced glycemic variability remains a challenge, risking hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. We are pleased to be collaborating with Dana Lewis, Rayhan Lal, Dessi P. Zaharieva, Emily Fox, Ramesh Johari being funded by the Helmsley Charitable Trust's $12M grant to the T1D Exercise Initiative to develop a personalised decision support tool. Abiodun SOLANKE, Ph.D., Ahtsham Zafar, Chan le Van #AI #Exercise_management #automated_insulin_delivery #T1DEXI
CeADAR Ireland are delighted to be partnering with Stanford University and OpenAPS Researcher Dana Lewis on the development of a personalised decision support tool using net insulin on board as part of a wider research effort to improve the ability of those with T1 Diabetes(T1D) to exercise safely. The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, has committed over $12 million to projects under the T1D Exercise Initiative (T1-DEXI), and this marks a significant milestone in the journey towards better health outcomes for those living with T1D. Led by Dr. Arsalan Shahid, CeADAR Ireland is proud to be an integral part of this transformative movement. Exercise plays a crucial role in the management of T1D, yet the challenge of maintaining blood sugar levels during physical activity can deter many. The initiatives supported by Helmsley's generous funding aim to tackle this issue head-on, developing new education platforms, diabetes device algorithms, and innovative insulins that promise a safer, more manageable exercise experience for those with T1D. The project will also develop a prototype decision support tool to inform pre-exercise decision-making for people with T1D. The prototype will include net insulin on board education and simulations to understand the impact of different types of exercise on glucose outcomes in combination with user behaviours. https://lnkd.in/ecW-TRbu
