Why is it important to speak pragmatically about #pornography when it comes to #safeguarding? Child Safe Standard 3.3 requires some organisations to offer access to sexual abuse prevention programs. This should never be limited to adult-to-minor contexts, and should always include prevention messaging about peer to peer harm and intimate partner abuse. This means talking about the issue of pornography, sexting and image based abuse. If you’re providing education, services, programs, volunteer or employment opportunities to children and young people in Victoria, you may be obligated to meet this Standard by law. 💻 Protect Children's new article published on the 2PS Project website discusses the excessive use of adult pornography as a possible pathway to #CSAM offending. 🔎📄 Research findings from our #EUfunded Project #2KNOW reveal that 65% of anonymous child sexual abuse material offenders in the #darkweb habitually viewed adult pornography before starting to search for #CSAM, 51% of respondents viewing it every day. ➡ Pathways to #CSAM offending are complex and require further comprehensive research. By learning more about how individuals start searching for #CSAM, we can identify spaces for intervention, develop tailored prevention strategies, and enhance the protection of children. Kids sexually assaulting other kids is not just an issue in the UK; the same trends are being seen in the United States, Canada, and Australia. The statistics in this article are worrying, with 15,000 rapes and sexual attacks on children each year in the UK alone. Police warn that online pornography is normalizing sexual violence and leading to desensitization. As parents, it is our responsibility to protect our kids while they are online, ensuring they are not only safe from harm but also from accessing material they shouldn't be. I am deeply concerned and disheartened by the recent decision of the German Parliament to downgrade the possession and distribution of child pornography from a felony to a misdemeanor. This legislative change is a grave misstep that undermines global efforts to combat the exploitation and abuse of children. Furthermore, when will we stop using the term ‘child pornography’? It should be addressed as Child Sexual Exploitation Material. This terminology more accurately reflects the severity of the crime and the impact on the victims. https://lnkd.in/gtqF6h5Y

It’s more accurate to call it what it is: evidence of child sexual abuse. Language is pivotal in shaping public perception and understanding in advocacy and awareness. One such movement that seeks to bring about a crucial change in terminology is the push to replace the term "child pornography" with the more accurate and sensitive phrase "child sexual abuse material" (CSAM).
