Highlights #geopolitcs of #US and #China, challenges of price volatility, whilst addressing need for long term policy and the importance of defence supply. Discusses potential of collaboration and accessing other sources of supply. Suggest also take a look at Chilean Cobalt Corp ("C3") - an example of where #cobalt in #Chile could be extracted from a historic mine, as well as exploration prospects.

We enjoyed the opportunity to participate on a panel at the What’s Up Down South economic summit in southern Utah today! Panel participants included Danny Stewart and Lynne Mayer from our team, alongside Jen Wakeland, who is the director of strategic development director for Beaver County. During the panel we discussed how we synergize with local communities to create a hub for collaboration, innovation, and growth designed to facilitate global connectivity and streamline business operations. We highlighted three project areas of significance for southern Utah: 1) The Mineral Mountain Project area, which will optimize transportation assets, energy and mining resources, and other key factors to develop new primary employment opportunities in Beaver 2) The Iron Springs Project Area, which will serve southwestern Utah with two transloading facilities and the creation of a 725-acre rail-served industrial park for new business development.

Once again the year ends with a big M&A deal! Last year it was Serica acquiring Tailwind, this year its Harbour acquiring Wintershall Dea*. The US$11.2 billion deal, funded through bonds, new share issues and US$2 billion in future cash flows, will increase Harbour’s production to around 500 kboep/d and bring entry into new regions. The enlarged business is forecast to generate FCF of around US$1.5 billion annually into the mid-2030’s. As with the Majors, Harbour is pushing for gas. The new business will be around 60% gas weighted. Emissions intensity will also drop to around 14 tCO2e/kboe across the enlarged portfolio. Harbour’s North Sea portfolio has driven a successful de-leveraging programme, which has afforded it the liquidity and balance sheet strength to push for a deal of this size. There’s a long time to go until the anticipated completion date in Q4 2024, but we doubt this is the end of the story for Harbour’s M&A plans.
